The Gnosis: Forgotten Initiative

We are a group of 80+ CMDRs that will be left in the dark when The Gnosis departs The Cone Sector on October 4th.

Our Facebook Link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/249807012533212/

The Gnosis is a Megaship owned by Canonn Interstellar Research Group. It is capable of faster-than-light travel and will be jumping into Cone Sector FN-J b9-0 on September 6th until October 4th, located in a small, otherwise inaccessible region surrounded by a permit-locked sector. Traveling aboard The Gnosis will be the only safe way in or out.

We are a group of CMDRs that will be staying behind in the Cone Sector.

Our Primary mission is to explore the region and map the systems so that other CMDRs may travel safety.

Our Secondary mission will be to get in contact with the Frontier Developement team and establish a small moonbase in a controlled sector.

Our Third mission will be to get in contact with the Frontier Developement team and establish a minor faction in the controlled region. The Forgotten Initiative.

Our Last and Final mission will be to set up a Community Goal that will allow safe passage through the COL-70 Sector via a open-permit highway or The Gnosis.

Our timeline and how we plan on accomplishing our goals.

September 5th: Final preparations will be made, a Private Xbox, PS4, and PC group will be established for those who are not fully equipped for PVP.

September 6th: The Gnosis will be making her jump into The Cone Sector (Cone Sector FN-J b9-0) and we will start this day off strong by providing an expedition detail to V355 Monocerotis, an abandoned Asteroid Base that had a previous population of 2,500 prior to update 2.3. The rest of the group will either provide security detail in open play or start on their exploration across The Cone Sector.

September 6th - October 4th: This will be the best period for exploration, not only will we have The Gnosis to refuel, repair, and to turn in cartographics, but also the help of the main body who I'm assuming will be focusing on exploration efforts. (Those CMDRs not part of the Forgotten Initiative). Also during this time we hope to have found a suitable and abundant system to establish our future headquarters, we are hoping v355 Monocerotis provides us with much needed resources and discoveries.

October 4th: The Gnosis is departing The Cone Sector, this will be your last chance to stock up on Limpits, Fuel, Ammo, and offload/onload any cargo and cartographics before she jumps out. This will be our last day of safety and survival will officially begin. IF YOU DIE AFTER THE GNOSIS HAS DEPARTED, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RETURN TO THE CONE SECTOR. Also, on this day we are asking everyone to play solely in OPEN Play after The Gnosis has departed. Prior to the group migrating to open play, we will need a strong group of volunteers to PVP any gankers who may have lingered behind. After we have switched over to Open Play, we will establish a Rally / Rescue point. This will most likely be our headquarters and any CMDRs with Repair Limpits, Fuel Limpits, Ect will be expected to rally up with any CMDRs in need of emergency services. SURVIVAL IS A MUST!

October 4th - November 4th: We will continue to explore and chart The Cone Sector and gather materials from her landable surfaces. During this time we will have a Photo opportunity in space where we will form up and take screenshots. I will be submitting these screenshots as irrefutable evidence of The Forgotten CMDRs who were left in the dark to the Frontier Development Team. Along with this request I will need a full inventory of ALL CARGO from all members who stayed behind. I will be submitting the screenshots, cargo spreadsheets, and headquarters request to establish a small moonbase (or Asteroid base if v355 Monocerotis turns out a success) to the Frontier Development Team. The reason we will be submitting the request after The Gnosis has already departed, is to try achieve a Community Goal. Hopefully the Frontier Development team is sympathetic to our request. This is extremely high risk.

November 4th - December 4th: Elite Dangerous: Beyond Chapter 4 will be releasing. With the update hopefully will come our new home base! After our home base is established we will need to request a minor faction, The Forgotten.

December 4th - New Year: I will be submitting a second Community Goal request, this one will be our final objective. We will try to either establish a safe highway through COL-70 (Which is currently Permit-Locked) and open up a line of systems that will allow safe passage back to the bubble or request a permanent flight plan every quarter with The Gnosis for resupply and proper transportation.

It's my nebula! MINE! You know that beardy geezer who runs the train in The Matrix? That's me, that is. I'll be staying in the Cone and it's mine. ALL MINE.

I'm on Xbox by the way, making the stranded in the wilderness analogy even more poignant.

The reason we will be submitting the request after The Gnosis has already departed, is to try and force a Community Goal. They will be left with the choice of killing off all of us in a mass genocide (including our cartographics), providing rescue efforts or supporting our request.

Sounded cool until it turned into "let's blackmail FD into giving us stuff". Anyway, good luck in your mission.

Someome should probably tell him 80 people is a race of over a trillion isn't a genocide. In fact its suicide if anything seeing as how they are deliberately putting themselves in this situation.

Also like everything else all rescue efforts will be taken upon ship distruction without fail and they will be just fine. The real kicker is the data, but anyone can get that, so at best they just forfeit anybgood findings in that sector.

In short, bold move commander, lets see how this plays out.

It started well - then I read that you want Fdev to just magic into existence a moonbase, just like that? Ain't gonna happen. Creating bases is the tasks of Community Goals, and that isn't likely to happen if there's no lines of supply from refinery stations, for example, which won't happen since there's permit-locks.

Why should they listen to you? There's been years and years of people asking for permit-restricted systems to be unlocked. Sure, you can try, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Attempting to blackmail FDev to get what you want isn't going to end well. Just saying. If FDev should give in to you, they'll be flooded by a lot more blackmail attempts before the day is over.

January 4th - New Year: atmospheric landings released, you will make a request to Frontier to establish the first planetary base on an ELW :D

I guess a week after arrival, "The Gnosis" will suffer technical difficulties that require immediate attention by technichians in the bubble, thus leaving all those not aboard at the time stranded until the problems are fixed - in 6 months maybe?

it does seem odd that FDev would have left the Cone Sector unlocked in the middle of a permit-locked region. I can think of two plausible reasons:

1. An oversight. Perhaps the stars in the Cone Sector have a different designation to the surrounding stars, and therefore got missed out when the region was locked.

2. A route in/out already exists, but nobody has found it yet. It would only need a few unlocked systems to act as "stepping stones". Some of these might be "hidden neutrons" (neutron stars which are not the primary star in the system, so they don't show up as neutron stars in the galmap).

If 2 is correct, finding such a route would be much easier from within the Cone Sector than from outside it (much smaller surface area to search). I intend to look while I'm in there, and that might be a good activity for the staying-behind team to attempt.

I'm going to make it my mission to find a route in so that if it exists, I can be in the Cone Sector waiting when the Gnosis shows up.

"Hey guys, what took you so long?" :D

LOL.

I can read the Galnet article already.

Lost in space.
80 CMDR's failed to return to Gnosis in time for the scheduled jump out of the Cone sector where it has been for the last two months supporting exploration efforts in this difficult to access region of space.

The administrators of Gnosis extent their condolences to the families of those CMDR's and will be installing a remembrance plaque on board in due time.

Its already been fully explored and tagged, long before it was artificially cut off by neighboring permit sectors. Hundreds, possibly thousands of players have traveled safely throughout the that sector already.

You should die with honor like those who one-way jumped into he Cancri cluster did.

They never tried to force FD into making a short cut back for them or blackmailed 'genocide or a CG'. They knew it was a one way deal and in recognition FD created the Anaconda's Graveyard as a memorial for them. (pity its a one way trip to go see it though!) :D

But good luck on your ideas!

Possibly - I'd expect there to be quite a bit of undiscovered stuff in there. Cone Sector is fairly large, includes both a dense 2MASS smear and a bunch of boring-looking stars some distance from the nebula, and the permit locks went in early enough ... I was poking around nearby nebulae not long after the permit locks and there were still plenty of first discoveries there. Probably most if not all of the good stuff is claimed, though.

Still, there's things such as volcanism surveys which could keep residents of a region like that busy for years.

A third possibility: it's not necessary to - there's nothing in Cone itself that they want to hide, but it happens that the two much larger sectors surrounding it *do* contain stuff, so Cone getting cut off is unavoidable collateral.

The Colonia Hub base was constructed by a mining CG, which could also work in a permit-locked area. The *catch* is that there was already a station to deliver the mined goods to. If Frontier did accept the request - it's not something normally in scope - they could send out a megaship to act as a temporary depot, though.

...or they could do nothing. The permit locks will be lifted eventually, after all, and you can't possibly claim you didn't realise what would happen. :) 80 rebuys isn't even a blip on Frontier's conscience if you end up choosing that route out - or perhaps Squadron Carriers will let the community mount a rescue without direct Frontier involvement ... we don't yet know exactly what they'll be capable of in terms of operating range.

Look ... it's a cool idea, and establishing a base in that sort of region is potentially really interesting. But take some advice from someone who's spent most of the last two years working to develop Colonia - don't expect Frontier to work to your preferred timescale. Colonisation requires lots of things but mainly patience. You might be in there for quite a bit longer than you expect even if Frontier are broadly sympathetic to your plan - pack a spare toothbrush or two.

You're also asking for things which are both unprecedented and go against Frontier's previous statements on what player-submitted CGs can do (specifically: no colonising new systems) - that's not to say that they won't do it if they agree it's a good idea and a strong enough case, but they won't necessarily do it quickly - and you shouldn't expect it as a right. It's a good idea to have a backup plan. Your chances are much better if the asteroid base is still there - but even then you might be waiting 12-18 months for your CG submission to work its way through the queue.

It's going to be a race to get back to the nearest star port or base in the Bubble to claim what data there is :D That would be fun to watch.

Or can they claim it at the Gnosis ?
