It was difficult to find a title that would fit the topic. Therefor I tried one that should fit the level of discussion instead.
I urge all to keep it civil and polite, its also a reminder to myself. My intention with this thread is to talk about where we are coming from in the game community, and why we are pushing different agendas.
Its also an attempt to see if we can't come together as a community with useful suggestion and facts instead of name calling and pointing fingers. Elite is a massive game, its mind boggling huge, it will take a very long time to fill this void with content.
In the meantime, we as a community should try to explain, in a good tone and manner what we appreciate and how we would like it to be balanced to everyone's joy.
I will go first in this attempt.
Where I am coming from:
Mostly SIM's no not THE SIMS, simmy games like, ArmA, DCS, IL-2, red orchestra. I also play games like GTA, Witcher, Alien Isolation, Cities, Endless space, Endless of Legend, Civ V, and so on.
My main time are used in the Simmy games, however I really enjoy the stories in the Witcher and similar type of games.
So what on earth do this has to do with ED? Well resonantly we have been discussing the AI, I want it hard, some people do not want it that hard. (not including the bugs) To balance this is going to be very difficult, and we as players need to give enough room for everyone to enjoy the game, or there won't be any game in the end.
There are two paths FD can take regarding the game design, and of course try to stay in the middle of all of it. 1. would be the "arcade" path, what do I mead by that? easy to play, quick rewards, simple gameplay etc. 2. Simulation path, well we all know this would be boring to a lot of people so it has to be a mix of both right?
In my opinion, FD have done a great job, we got a lot from the SIM part, our flight instruments are leaning to the SIM part without becoming to complex, and the entire galaxy is simulated pretty well when you think about it. Some of the gameplay lean to the arcade part but I can live with that. The main feeling of the game need to be kept intact, when we can EVA it must feel right, some of the atmosphere in Alien isolation is really done well, the floating around in Adrift is also done well, accessing consoles, checking data following bread crumbs are in my opinion great gameplay.
What do you play and how do you like ED to be? what part of the game can you accept deviate from your normal preference, and what is on the no negotiations list.
Again please keep it positive even if we don't agree, we could end up with a game we all like to play for a long time.
Cheers,
