The Graea Hypue EC-T d4-156 Collision: An Annual-ish Event

Hello commanders,
The IGAU invites you to observe the annual-ish collision of Graea Hypue EC-T d4-156 2 a and b. Their collision is expected to occur early March 5th, 3308, and it is expected to last between 6 to 8 hours* at around 64% intersection. These moons only collide once every 393 days, so I wouldn't recommend skipping this event. ;) Former DSSA carrier, the [IGAU] Lemon Drop, will remain stationed around Graea Hypue EC-T d4-156 2 a during the collision and is equipped to restock your SRV if something were to happen to it. Special thanks to @MattG for doing the calculations for this collision.

*I will update this post with more precise figures when they become available.

From February 16th, 3308

Latest readings have peak collision happening early afternoon on the 5th, meaning initial contact at some point in the morning. We'll continue to take readings to hopefully provide better estimates as we get nearer the time.

They're getting closer

A bit of a silly post: earlier this morning I landed on 2b, glanced at 2a and logged out.
Now, late afternoon, I logged back in and had another look. Slowly getting closer (roughly 1,000km in 6h 20')
Might try it again later tonight, or early tomorrow morning.

Update:

Big ball now less than 6,0000km away!

I tried landing to walk forward, but couldn't (descended through the surface). And when I moved the ship forward, I went through the surface of the other moon too.

This is brilliant.

I tried to land on 2a (the lighter one) but it would not let me, so I parked with half of my ship through its surface, waiting for 2b (the darker one) to hit.

And then 2b came, but the game treated it as a mix of solid and virtual, so I went through it, but at the same time my shield was hit.

Eventually managed to enter supercruise with 0 shields, and avoid the umpteenth rebuy of the day!

I was eaten by the planet.

Once inside the matrix, I recalled my ship, which somehow landed without crashing, but I could not board the SRV, even though I was right under the hangar, so I disembarked and that's when I realised things get wonky inside a planet!

For some reason, the blue circle has fallen to the side.
