UPDATE 18/10/17 - My lenses have been now shipped (about a week earlier than I expected). I expect them to arrive within the next few days after which I will be resetting my save.

From 17/10/17 to 27/10/17, I'll be giving away over 100000 tonnes of Palladium and/or Gold to any CMDRs that wants it.

My ship: Anaconda​

Rules:
  • Salvage - Simply salvage the goods, fly to a different system and sell them, then come back for more.
  • Fight - Fight each other for them.
My ship is now unarmed, unshielded, unmodded and fragile. If you murder me, it doesn't matter. Once my 1.5billion credits has run out, I'll be wiping my save.

My methodoloy:
  • Starting at 20KM from the mailslot, I'll fly really slowly (20 M/S) back towards the station.
  • If CMDRs are present, I'll start abandoning cargo. I'll abandon at a steady rate, so it can be scooped / collected before cargo integrity hits 0%
  • Once I've run out of cargo, I'll dock, buy another 400+ tonnes, fly back to 20KM and repeat the above steps
  • If no one shows up by 20.30, I'll log out and try again the next day

Opportunity
I'd love it if we can get lots of people to this daily "event", salvaging, fighting and generally coming together as a community. If anyone wants to record it and post here, great. I'll record every session from my perspective and post the links here.

Why are you doing this?
I bought an Oculus Rift specifically for Elite and once my prescription lenses arrive I'll be wiping my save and starting again. I only ordered the lenses a couple of days ago, so they won't arrive until at least next week. It's been a hard decision, especially after all I've build up over the last 3 years. But rather than quietly clearing my save, I thought this might be a fun way of remembering this particular CMDR.
I considered buying another account, but I thought, "Stuff it, I'll just start again". I'm going to take my time and enjoy the experience "properly" this time. I won't be grinding, board swapping or using anything I consider an exploit. Just plain ol' fashion playing and enjoying.

I hope to see as many as you as possible over the next 10 days.

i like the idea, but why not change all your money into assets, then buy a sidey, and selfdestruct, and pick the new sidey option.
then leave your wealth somewhere in a system.. like a soft reset.

1) Instead of helping you'll just create a piranha pool of 'emergent content deliverers' out not to get you, but to gank your recipients. You're of no interest because it's salt they want and the noobs will be very hurt if instead of getting 100k they lose 100k
2) The best VR is in stuff like an SLF, Beluga, Courier etc. Buy a second account for the price of a take away and enjoy being a new pilot but don't burn bridges. You can have one account in Colonia the other in the bubble. IF Fdev release any "exciting mysterious stuff" you know you won't miss out because you can always get in a 60Ly conda or a 8000MJ Cutter or whatever

But hats off the altruistic idea

OP - I for one welcome your insanity and think it's a great idea. Hope it's fun, and I wish you a very pleasant second journey. I for one, am nowhere near completing my first journey despite playing since the first beta - but one day I hope to do something similar if I start a second journey.

Nice idea, but I'd feel I'd have copped out. I've not played properly for several months, and am quite excited about starting over, especially in VR.

Mind if I ask where you ordered your Rift lenses from? I find Rift + glasses pretty uncomfortable and haven't heard about lens inserts before, sounds like they might do the trick.

Yeah, I used these guys https://widmovr.com/. They've had some good reviews on the Virtual Reality forum here. I also bought the VR cover. I'll be posting on the VR boards with some feedback once I've used them a little while.

Actually it isn't. With all the threads complaining about grinding, how hard it is to make CR etc, I thought I'd try to to help some CMDRs out by giving them something different to do before I wipe my save. If they have some PVP fun or made some credits in the meantime, all the better.

If you don't believe me, come along in your fastest ship and find out. If it was me, I would fly my trade Anaconda (et al) to the station, then fly out 20KM in my fastest ship to check it out. If "it's a trap", I'd engage or clear off. If not, I'd get my trade Annie and profit.

I did this reset thing before. I kinda regretted it.

Why not just buy a new account and start over that way?

No downside, except the cash for the games..

benefits, you can switch to the other/current account to other stuff..

£450 for a GTX 1070 and £500 for Rift, lenses & cover just to play Elite: Immersive? No problem. £40 for another account? No thanks.

I must be a bit strange.
