The great data nerf?

Ensure that faction effects are the same from selling exploration data for pages as well as individual star systems, and balance those faction effects to have roughly the same galactic impact as before this release

Now this can be read in two ways:

1 - selling 50 systems has the same effect as selling 1
2 - selling one page has the same effect as selling 50 systems

Not sure if it is a good thing or not.
It almost sounds as if the influence from selling system data is going to be a bit broken.

The wording for reference:
Ensure that faction effects are the same from selling exploration data for pages as well as individual star systems, and balance those faction effects to have roughly the same galactic impact as before this release

"Roughly the same galactic impact as before this release" to me indicates that the game is going to treat each system as a transaction regardless of whether you sell them one by one or as part of a page. My assumption is that in practice this will mean that, unless you need fifty points, most groups will still be selling system by system. If I am reading this correctly, it seems like a good change that reduces the tedium of fighting murder while still allowing the use of data as a convenient way to push an asset-owning faction.

So I'm not watching the Live feed (need to head to bed soon to wake around midnight for work). According to a Wingmember though Dav Stott just confirmed that selling a page of Exploration data is now as if you sold each System on that page separately.

Or so I was told. If true we'll see soon enough.

That's what I heard too, but he also mentioned something vague about balancing, which renews my concern.

But we'll find out soon enough.

I'm concerned about the "balancing" bit with exploration data.

If they increase the effect per page to make it similar to single transaction data, then random explorers are going to have a huge effect on the BGS in systems where they return to the bubble.

But maybe that's the point.

Dav explained it on the live stream today. The way i understood it is that previously people were handing in exploration data system by system to max out background sim influence. (gaming the mechanic)

Now it just works per page of data handed in.

So if you have a single page of data with 20 systems it doesnt matter if you hand in 20 individually or 1 at a time it will only count the once.
If you have 4 pages of data it will count 4 times.

Previously if you had 15 systems of data and handed them in one at a time, it would count 15 times.

"Ensure that faction effects are the same from selling exploration data for pages as well as individual star systems,"

It's generally well known that previously, selling a page was massively undercutting the "galactic impact" you could have compared to selling system by system. This fixes that and likely counts "system by system" regardless of how you sell.

"...and balance those faction effects to have roughly the same galactic impact as before this release"

This basically says to me "we found that people were abusing it like old school commodities transaction method, and so we're reducing the impact of selling system by system by a "rough" amount."

So it's basically like "since we had sell by page and sell by system have a baby, you get half the benefit of system by system. RIP"

Only if you were gaming the system by sitting at your pc spending an hour or two laboriously handing in each systems exploration data one at a time, rather than selecting sell page.

There is a 10 influence point cap per tick (without opposition). Selling 10 systems individually takes less than a minute.
