The Great Earth-Like World Tour

Want to visit 1000 earth-like worlds without venturing too far from Sol? Well now you can!

Presenting The Great Earth-Like World Tour!

You'll visit 1000 Earth-Like worlds over 967 systems, and you'll never venture more than 7k LY from Sol. But how much will you earn? How long will it take? The answer to these questions varies greatly on a number of factors, but let's make some assumptions. I've seen figures that guess a honked-only system earning on average 10k - I think this is high so have assumed 8k for a honked system. I've assumed 70k for an ELW. For my "fast" times, I've assumed you'll manage to make a jump every 60 secs and you'll spend no longer than 5 mins (on average) scanning each ELW. For the "faster" times, you'll need to go 50 secs per jump and no more than 2.5mins (average) scanning each ELW. Clear? OK, then here are the stats:

Jump Range (LY)253035404550
Total Jumps (est)864972716315557150194561
Avg. jumps between systems8.947.526.535.765.194.72
Approx total earnings (Millions)139.19128.17120.52114.57110.15106.49
Approx total time - fast (hours)227.48204.52188.58176.18166.98159.35
Approx total time - faster (hours)161.79142.65129.38119.04111.38105.01
Earnings/hour - fast (thousands)612627639650660668
Earnings/hour - faster (thousands)8608989329629891,014

You can improve earnings massively by scanning 1 or 2 other terraforming candidates in each ELW system, or water worlds - but this will obviously increase total time for the journey.

In case you're interested, the journey looks like this (-5k LY -> +5k LY on X-axis and -2.5K LY -> +7.5K LY on Z-axis, red dot is Sol)

Not got the stomach for 1000 ELWs? 7K LY from Sol still too far for you? How about a diet version that'll visit 200 ELWs and not venture more than 1K LY from Sol? On the same google doc there's also a "Mini ELW Tour" worksheet that will visit 200 ELWs in 189 systems. With the same assumptions, the stats for this one look like this:

Jump Range (LY)253035404550
Total Jumps (est)1083920805715641590
Avg. jumps between systems5.734.874.263.783.393.12

If you're fast, and can jump at least 30 LY you can potentially earn over 1m credits per hour. Yes, it's not as lucrative as neutron farming - but on the plus side it's not neutron farming!

Disclaimer: I haven't actually done either of these tours. All numbers are (mostly) guesses! etc etc. A good portion of both routes is in the bubble, so take shields!

That image... CTHULHU HAS RISEN!

So basically, do the Grand Tour, become Elite. As a neat side-effect, there's a pretty good estimation of how much time it might take to reach Elite in exploration.
The Mini Tour would also be pretty good for getting all the exploration data you might need to pump into the selected Engineers.

Well then, who will be the first to do either tour?

For those who do not care about name tagging, this is by far the most awesome idea in exploration I've seen in a long gone time. And it's presented well too!

Much rep for you CMDR.

Most awesome idea in exploration in a long time? A pure grind of already-known objects? Erm... ;)

Not my idea of exploration, but whatever rocks your boat.

If you do the long version, keep your eyes peeled: you are likely to find a few undiscovered Earthlikes of your own.

Well as FDev have defined exploration for in-game ranking purposes...

The payout will be massively more now since just 1000 ELWs will give you 600m+ credits.

Uh, thread necro, guys. The list was compiled ten months ago, back when ELWs only got you 60,000 credits each. Now that they're ten times that amount, you don't need anywhere near that long a route to make it to Elite.

This is an utterly amazing thread. Nicely put together.

It is "sightseeing", yes, but it's very cool sightseeing. I think I'll do the mini one. I have LYR level 5 waiting to kick in (just finished a massive exploration trip in deep space) and this would be a superb use of the extra week I get waiting for it.

Going back into the black...

Time to take my new Anaconda on a shake down cruise me thinks! And yes, ELWs pay nicely after the increase in exploration data.

Indeed, I did the first 82 ELW's focusing only on the ELW's and any water worlds that were in the same system as the ELW. I had to skip the COL 70 SECTOR due to 'unknown permit' which caused some pretty lengthy trips between a few of the systems but in the end I cashed out $79,153,270...also managed to grab myself a first discovery on the way back to the bubble.
