The Great Thargoid Content Removal

Dear everyone.

since the thargoid war is over and all the Titans and Thargoid Spire they develop for the last two years are just removed, even tho it can be temporarily im pretty angry about it,
because thats simply content they removed.

Would it be too weird just to place both of these into the california nebula where goids are since ever and make them unkillable just to not remove your own content?
Yeah i know, elite is telling a "story" and it happens fairly often that Events are only available for some periode of time.

And then its like, People are saying, give fdev some time with their families over new year and xmas...
comeon!

Your game is already Big as an Ocean but on one foot deep. how can you.

It won't be the end of it.
yeah but how long they gonna let us wait in that boring state.
And then its like, i went to colonia to unlock some onfoot engineers, but you know what their is no loot in these settlements, because there is no powerplay GG
Its making me angry

I'm still waiting for nearly 7 years for some things to progress. So either get ready for the long ride, or maybe play something else in the interim... i know which one i do.

My guess is colonization might first be introduced before the Thargoids come back around for seconds (thirds?), but most things seem to suggest that there’s more planned.

I also suspect the spires still have a role to play in whatever the next arc in this narrative is. There might even be a more evolved form of them yet to be seen, as they don’t look fully formed (but that is going further into speculation territory than I currently dare). Until we see what happens next I’m not playing too actively in Elite - not really involved in BGS and not at all in Powerplay, so I’m largely passing the time playing other games that were neglected through most of this war arc with the Titans*, or finally reading the books I wanted as birthday/Christmas presents last month.

*I’m not convinced we’ve seen the last of those either, though evidently none are on their way to the Bubble right now and there are no - visual - indicators the existing ones are capable of rebuilding themselves from their wrecked state. And the Thargoids might or might not deploy them in a more cautious manner when we have weird funky nanobots to toss at their heat vents.

I wouldn't say I am angry .. but I am disappointed mostly in myself that I didn't get involved till the final titan.
Now I have a capable titan bomber but no reason to use it.
yes part of me thinks they could have a 2nd wave of titans come in possibly to reinforce where they still are.... however so long as the content is rebooted at some point in the not too distant future I can understand why FD want to limit its use...it keeps them meaningful.
it would be a damn shame and a huge mistake for them to just be "done" however

So, a couple things I'd throw in

- Are Titans really "meaningful" anymore? They're basically a solved problem, and the only time anything threw a curveball at those fighting, it was because of manual FD intervention.

- i think instead of a second wave, it would be better if they opened up a region that's basically "Thargoid territory" eg cone sector, that's basically the size of the bubble, but completely Thargoid owned, and they do a slow occupation out, centralised on Titans peppered around the place, with one additional phase meaning they can raise a titan in a system to continue expansion out. Forever war for those that want it.

-... but FD almost never capitalise on their existing mechanics, only ever throwing new things in, without ever revisiting and reintegrating those mechanics. It would be so dumb to go "yeah that's it"... and yet there's a very small part of me that would be utterly unsurprised if it genuinely was it for titans.

Probably it was a test of some deep core engine's changes. So they reused existing in-game assets to do a test. Those changes could be so global so can be used for other things than Thargs.

Yes, this was certainly true until FD came to their senses and reworked the very stale PP 1.0 into the more dynamic and integrated PP 2.0. So I have (cautious) hopes they'll rework the Titan mechanics or transform them into something better.

The game has been running for 10 years. You can't teleport to Colonia or Beagle Point in a millisecond à la No Man's Sky. If you are an impatient person, this game is probably not for you. Except PvP, maybe. To put things into perspective:
  • It took 2 years for the "debug camera" to evolve into the "camera suite"
  • It took 20 months from the introduction of engineers to the introduction of material traders
  • It took almost 3 years from the 1.2 "Wings" update to having actual wing missions in game
  • 2 years between engineers in the Bubble and engineers in Colonia
  • 2 years: duration of the hot phase (with Titans) of the Second Thargoid War
  • After 5 years: proper, fully voiced tutorial missions
  • After 7 years: second SRV model introduced
I'm not saying that I agree with all these long time periods. I'm just saying that patience is like your little cuddly friend that keeps you warm in the cold of space.

Yeah maybe you are right, after 1300h the game isnt for me anymore and im not even joking.
I mean the Game really is but fdev isnt for me,i cant handle it anymore-

if it were permanent I would agree with you but personally I am holding onto my toys for now.

IF they are gone for good then I will clear out the pram but for now I am hoping its a temp respite before we get another wave

fingers crossed because I was a late commer to that party and I really want to get at it again.

are they still selling ships geared for titan attacks? if they are that may be a clue as to it being temporary. if not however am not so sure.

To my knowledge, both AX pre-builts were removed from the store following Cocijo's defeat. My perspective on that is, they have enough integrity to not sell purpose-less ships, or at least not prebuilts which the task they were made for, is currently entirely unavailable. They did briefly advertise their prebuilt AX Chieftain when AXI announced the 22460 assault event and Frontier acknowledged it in GalNet, but I'm not sure if it's been pulled again since.

I'm 99% sure that the Thargoids are going to return in some form, but I have no clue when. Shouting in all caps (as the post above yours does) will not make them more inclined to answer and they probably are rather keeping it as a surprise. They also did make Mechan a community... whatever it's called for the Elite content creators, and his main focus is AX content. That would suggest their future plans do involve Thargoids in some way. Whether before or after colonization, we see. I would prefer not having to wait too much longer.

Or at least something that does anything with the currently inert spires and Titan wrecks like, I don't know, "research".

So colonization not just for humanity, but for Thargoids, too? I like this a lot.
