The hazards of space?

I was wondering what type of hazards we might encounter in space and if we will be able to buy equipment to counter some of them.

Will there be for example systems with excessive radiation that are dangerous for the average traveler to stay in for more than a certain period of time?

Would we be able to upgrade our radiation shielding to get some work done (for example mining) in such a system?
I was also thinking of game play situations in which a player is pursued by an enemy and, having upgraded anti radiation shielding himself, jumps to a high radiation system where the pursuer cannot follow, or can only stay for a short while before perishing.

Will there for example be occasional coronal mass ejection (CME)/solar flares and stuff like that which could fry our electrical systems?

etc. etc.

Is anything known about this?

It would be nice if things like white dwarves or neutron stars were a bit on the dangerous side. None of the habitable planets orbiting white dwarves like in Frontier!

I don't know about the more exotic phenomenon, like x-ray binaries. Maybe that depends on how much time the developers have, and I don't particularly want to see a 'x-ray' DLC for £5.

Probably, by the time humankind reaches as far as they have in Elite, they've already found a solution to radiation making it a non-issue.
If not by some super protective material, then maybe a portable protective magnetic field. Or maybe through genetical enhancement.

There will be furry little beasts. :D

No doubt and stuff with far too many legs too, but I do not mean that.
I mean natural phenomena in space we would have to watch out for, and avoid or take precautions against.

In Frontier I do not remember having encountered such phenomena.

I would imagine that any hazards that are already known to human science and protection against these will be included in the game. It should also be possible to upgrade your ship to some degree to help deal with most issues. But since space is so vast and knowledge is limited there will be places and situations in the game that mean no matter how well you or your ship are protected it would be best to just avoid.

Oh god please no tribbles or anything similar! :D

The dangers will be many and lethal, because the night is dark and full of terrors :p!

Some of the more extreme star systems would be so exceedingly deadly that no sensible person would go anywhere near them. Explorers aren't known for their sense though :).

It woud be very cool to have specialised craft for venturing to such systems... possibly huge ships with enormously thick walls of armour that get eroded by the spectacularly dangerous radiation.

It is pretty easy to identify such systems, so it would be very possible to find such a place from afar, gather in a nearby star system, and prepare a well thought out expedition
