The iCourier is actually pretty kickass!

Some of you may remember my Impulse Buys thread.
Since the, the said Imperial Courier has remained in the dock. However, recently inspired by some of Bongo's fixed weapon bounty hunting exploits, I decided to have a go myself :)

The intention was to try and improve my combat skills, but also just to have some fun :p
I normally use my Vulture-Tank for RES combat, but decided on this occasion to mix things up by dusting off the iCourrier, splashing some Cr. on it and seeing how it fares in combat... As it happens, pretty damn well!

Here's how the outfitting compares against my Vulture:

Even with only Class 3's, you can get some excellent shield strength. These are A Class Prismatics, and due to the superior power management of the iCourier, you can stack 3 A0 Shield boosters on top.
Combined with a lot of hull tanking, this actually has better defences than the stock Anaconda and Cutter!

The main issue is balancing the weapons. I'm running 3 fixed class 2 pulse lasers and they drain the capacitor very quickly, so there may be a need to swap some kinetic weapons instead.

Overall, it is massive amounts of fun to *pew pew* in. I really enjoyed the the challenge of fighting with fixed weapons. You wont make as much money, but it makes a great change of pace.

While it has the Vulture licked for raw speed and is pretty close on manoeuvrability and defences, it does fall a bit short offensively... And that jump range... :p

However, this entire build set me back 9.3million Cr. Which is around half that of a similar spec Vulture!!

Here's my build for anyone who is interested:

Hope this is of help to some [big grin]

The Courier looks nice but it's no Vulture!
Add your Vulture build also good fellow. what!

I just purchased a Python and I can't wait to off load the bally thing. Like driving a transit van on a track made of ice with yorkshire puddings for wheels, what what!

Tatty bye

You don't need it, you have mine

I love killing with the Courier, it has finesse. Although last night it took me about 15 minutes to take down a single Viper Mk III. A gimballed beam would have been a lot quicker but where's the fun in gimbals?

Same experience with the Python, Lion. Slapped a For Sale sticker on her right quick.
Your posts make me want to British, "Yorkshire pudding for wheels" made me spit my McDonalds burger and fries all over my XXXL jeans, I think i spilled my extra large Mountain Dew as well

Tally Hoo! (?)

She is a special ship and one I'll keep for a long time. I'm running a beam laser with two multi cannons and will take on any ship out there

The Courier may actually be one of the best PvP boats in the game thanks to its stupid shields & excellent mobility.

At least, that's the impression I get from the paper.

Always love to see the courier get some love. I used one as my first real combat ship and ever since have been learning every nuance I can about it.

First and foremost, try bi-weaves. The temptation for huge shields on the courier is there, but the capacitor doesn't want to support too much and the recharge on bi-weaves is gorgeous. With bi-weaves in a standard HazRes setting, provided I keep capacitor power available I never need to recharge using SCBs, which leaves a utility slot open for 1 x chaff, 3 x shield booster to pump that shield strength back up a bit.

No, it will never sustain three thermal weapons. As above, the power distributor isn't exactly gargantuan. Depending on your play style, if you aren't confident with FA Off and precise manoeuvres then try 2 x gimballed pulse and 1 x MC or cannon, and if you are comfortable with FA Off try 1 x fixed beam and 2 x MC or cannon.

The speed....is a massive boon. Where the vulture gets shafted by an enemy doing a sharp turn, the courier can boost at them hard enough to get right behind them before they have a chance to take it out. The combination of this speed, its impressive agility, the fact it's tiny and still has awesome shields gives this little "courier" some of the best survivability in the game.

You WILL need to watch weight though, as PSG weight and the like will kill what it can really do.

Here's one of my builds (I have a couple...): http://coriolis.io/outfit/imperial_...C0r1l1l00040404B42525272725.AwRj4zKA.Aw18UA==

As you can see, very dedicated to a single thing; it's parked in a BH system and doesn't need to move outside of that, so weight stripped where I can. It moves fast and hits hard. It needs to reload a fair bit, but it's less of an issue now I have other BHing ships and I go exploring regularly enough to stock up on synth materials.

Any questions around this beautiful piece of kit...I'm all ears.

The Python is really cumbersome to fly, especially coming from flying a Vulture. I very nearly got rid myself not long after purchase. Do you have the A thrusters? They are not cheap, but make a hell of a difference!

But it is a fantastic 'all rounder' and positively prints Credits. You'll be washing your roast swan and caviar down with Cava in no time dear boy! ;)
And don't forget, those 3 large hard-points pack a serious punch!

I'll try and sort out my Vulture build for you as well ;)

Exceptionally so - and that's very telling given I get a lot of people bashing me for picking the courier over the vulture. Against mindless NPCs, vulture kills like a boss. Against people that actually know how to manouevre...

Side note Lion, love and appreciate the names of your ships, being someone who enjoys and studies WW2 naval history. HMS and USS fielded the finest fleets on the planet

Had a similar problem with a wing of Eagles... Pesky things! :p

But you are right, much bigger feeling of satisfaction in using fixed weapons... Although I wont be going all fixed on my Python any time soon... 1 Plasma Acc is stress enough! :p

And for that sir, I am grateful. I have speed and maneuverability over the vulture, comparable shield strength, though my hull strength and firepower may be lacking by comparison I make up for it with sheer skill and determination, good sir. If you've never flown an Imperial Courier, then I suggest you don't judge it too harshly. As it remains one of the very best small fighters in the game. The Vulture may feel like a fighter, but trust me. When you're shooting at one, it's clear that it isn't. Vultures are so big and bricky that it's a simple matter to always remain on target and wear them down. And their power plants aren't exactly well defended.
