The idea that having four factions would actually weaken the Empire clearly isn't working out. A change is needed.

Thinking about this - I wonder if it would have been better to make the Federation ... well Federal. Make the Factions associated more with Parties/Groups focused around certain Platforms than Individuals. Not to say that there wouldn't be Individual powers in the Federation - but as both the major Factions are associated with the President / Shadow President - sounds like those Factions should have been tied to Parties.

I think that would be very interesting. Sadly, I genuinely don't feel like FD has a very good grip on making the lore fun maybe because of a strong desire to stay close to the original games. It's also quite evident that either they don't have a dedicated writer on staff, or that writer is seriously not able to cope with the workload they're given.
 
I agree with your sentiment. I'm with Patreus and I tried pirating your factions ships in the last cycle in order to undermine but it was a pointless exercise. Compared with being able to destroy 'enemy' freighters for 15PPs and a substantial shift in the progress bar compared to poor yield, time consuming pirating actions isn't really engendering Imperial in-fighting (without spilling blood).
Yeah, I've tried to get excited about those missions, but even with hatchbreaker and collector limpets they're a tedious exercise - and as a bounty hunter it just feels wrong to be doing piracy missions.
