The "I'm disappointed" thread

Thread Closed: Not open for further replies.
Please notice: This is not a "I hate the game - Goodbye" thread.

This is an attempt to create a thread where commanders can vent their dissappointment with what Elite: Dangerous has evolved to, without the thread getting closed.

It should be seen as an attempt to contain complaints, disappointments and frustrations to one thread instead of having to constantly close down ever spawning threads like a game of "Whack A Mole".

--------------------

So here goes. This is my initial grievance/vent modified in an attempt to avoid closure:

Some of you may know the tale of The Emperor's New Clothes.

The bottom line is, that no matter how many bow and scrape in honour of something that simply isn't there, the fact of the matter is that this game has been pushed into release far too soon.

I won't go into too much detail as the threads concerning these issues are easily found on this forum, but let me put two points forward:

  1. The game is not even close to being feature complete. Who in there right mind releases a product to the public in an unfinished state, unless you intend to generate income on the short term only. The hype will die soon enough when consumers realise the shell of a dream they have bought into.
  2. The game is riddled with fundamental bugs, that seem to multiply with each new "patch". This is by no means the trademark of any software wanting to claim a high street hallmark.

Edit, thanks to Azdour: "For all the good things and time I have had playing it is the missing and buggy parts that seem to be now taking the game away from me, from a like to play to becoming disappointed in the way I feel the game is heading"

As a premium beta backer I'm still proud of contributing to the dream, and I will follow the evolution of Elite: Dangerous in-game, in this forum, and on the internet in general.

Fly safe commanders.

Please feel free to vent. :)

Well the main thing, is the peer 2 peer networking, would be great in a perfect world where everyone's home network can handle 32 connections simultaneously, seems like FD think everyone's home internet is akin to big corporations....
Second for me, is the utter lack of any flavour in the game. Mainly the Naval rank missions, don't evel feel like they're up to placeholder mission standard, they just suck. More flavour for regular missions etc is also definitely needed.
Third, but kinda goes hand in hand with 2, is the USS points, completely random, reset when you drop out of SC and go back in, non persistant (cant follow a funeral procession etc across a system).

I'm disappointed that it has taken this long to release a modern Elite, not disappointed it has been released.

And since we are apparently allowed to vent here :)

I am disappointed that the OP is quite keen to not get this thread closed but then goes and says:

Yes lets debate what we feel disappointed about in the game, but lets do this in a rational way. People have the right to give their opinion but lets avoid content that will tempt people into writing abrasive replies.

This game is really great. However, it seems hollow and incomplete at the moment. A delayed release would have been ideal but that isn't what happened. Oh well, give it time.

I just got the basic package for Star Citizen and it scrapes along on my old desktop where Elite Dangerous soars without a hitch. However, I can already say that the feel of SC is solid and I really look forward to playing in both universes (after a $1200 new desktop, of course). I even figured out how to make it fly like in ED (that yaw tho, sheesh)

I'm not sure I follow. So you agree that we should be able to vent, but not that the release was premature? Fine by me. I have no problem agreeing to disagree.

I'm disappointed in you Globusdiablo.
You were such a positive light in the community, and OK you felt you weren't happy with the game, that is fair enough.
Then you started a thread to comment on your disappointment, which was closed by a Moderator earlier today. Now you feel it necessary to start a new thread to just continue the thread of yours that was closed.

Not cool. I'm disappointed.

compare the status of World of Warcraft 10 years ago and now, and you realize: these kind of games are NEVER finished.

I agree - it is very buggy. They probably should have kept this in development for another 6 months or so.

I'm mainly disappointed with the decision to use P2P. It's not reliable enough for a game that should be considered an mmo. Server technology today is amazing - so you can have hundreds of people in one instance.

Other than that, I love the game. I really can't wait to see some actual characters in the game. It will give the game life which it's badly missing.

I'm sorry to hear that. I've contested the decision to close the previous thread, and reworded this one, as I have written in the new original post. If you have a look through posts on this forum, all posts relating to disappointment with the game are closed. It doesn't seem right.
