Ships The Imperial Clipper, for all your Imperial needs

I could vom half half my academic career on this forum to tell you that just about everything has a root in a bias.

You may even call the ROI/limited scope performance centric model I am pushing through this thread a highly biased assessment.
This bias is a push to improve performance, something quixotically contrary to the owners of this vehicles desire.

Python better than a Clipper? Seriously?

- The bunks in the Python smell.
- Python has no leather seats made of real animals.
- Python toilets often malfunction. Very messy.
- No bar in the cockpit.
- No Imperial flags in the mess hall.
- Only filthy pirates fly a Python. Fact.
- Ever seen Aisling Duval cross the galaxy in a Python? EVER? She has style and taste.

What is a bit more shield strength worth in comparison? Everyone can have shields, but not style.
Long live the Empire.

If you fly well enough, you won't need shields. ;)

Now if only they could figure out how to install a 5 point harness to keep our heads from moving all about during evasive maneuvers.
I man can dream. a man can dream.

Recently bought a Clipper (yesterday) and I'm loving it.

My Clipper, De Sousa Ring station and Mantxe 1 in eclipse

Bought clipper after being bored of trading up in T6 and T7. Planning to sell and move to Python after upgrading. Now planning to skip Python for a T9 and keep Clipper for having fun in.

Also this is my stats on a recent CG (Got shunted out of top 5 due to RL causing problems in the last 9 hours of the CG):

Was very shocked considering I expected never to be able to reach top 5 without a dedicated combat ship like the FDL.

Clipper rocks, end of -> Also I have slight imperial leanings after one too many Federation fines but its all a bit weird over there so im unsure at the moment.

Got mine and have been playing with fittings and setup. Love the engine noise, it reminds of the movie Forbidden Planet in a way.

Do you find it annoying that you can't land on the outposts because of the size?
I am currently running around in an Asp and I am planning to move up to a Python when I can afford it and the Clipper is affordable but it is ....well big.

I do believe it's nearly if not as big as the Anaconda, it's HUGE !

Lack of outpost landing is occasionally annoying, yes, but not a real game breaker.
I still have an Asp around for when I need it. I also moved from the Asp to the Clipper, overall it's a dramatic improvement, though the Clipper certainly has weaknesses (oh my, now I'm on the ISA blacklist for writing this), large landing pad being one of them. However, I bought an Asp back again quickly as I missed it too much, and it will probably be handy for flying missions once 1.3 makes them interesting again. On the other hand, you may need the money from your Asp to afford outfitting the Clipper, so perhaps a Cobra as secondary ship will do for a while. All in all, I'm a big fan of the hangar and having a couple of ships available just for a change, so the lack of outpost landing doesn't really bother me.

Besides, every ship needs to have some disadvantages, else everyone would be flying the same ship.

Guys, I'm currently grinding rep to buy a Clipper, but I won't have a lot of money to equip it at first. I want to make an all-rounder, mainly for bounty hunting and a little trading, and ready for any mission (for Powerplay), aimed towards PvE. I'm giving myself a budget of about 35M credits. Given this constraint, what do you think of this build? It jumps up to 19ly and has 152T cargo.

With the C powerplant, I would suggest 2xG3 pulses and either 2x G2 kinetic or have those beams as turrets (necessary vs chaff).

Right, thinking of taking my Clipper back out of storage after a while.

Anyone have any opinions on using the Imperial Hammer on it? I think you would only run one, as the two are still too far apart for good convergence. What would you pair it up, and run on the nacelles though?

I often run the clipper with a single class 3 fixed beam, but that will have problems converging on another hardpoint. That, or go all gimbaled on the Class 3s having a single hammer as the only fixed?

I was considering buying a Clipper to make a Dual hammer ship, until I realised that even the class 2 were too far away from each other.

If you find a viable solution, I'm very interested, I can think of pairing the hammer with another "no class 3 weapon", like seeker missiles or gimballed multicannon.

I can't fly until Monday so I'm armchair-outfitting on coriolis.io

I'm tempted to fit gimballed cannons to the C3 slots for particularly savage hull damage on larger ships (since smaller ships aren't much of a threat anyway). Is this a terrible idea? If I do that, do you think I'd be able to get away with gimballed C2 beams in the medium slots?

If anyone's flown something like that, I'd love to hear your experiences.
