I have just picked up my Courier today and I am really impressed with the package so far.
Been cruising Empire space in my FDL for the last week trying to get my ranking up to Serf so I could buy a Clipper. Finally got my Naval Ascension mission earlier today, so I dropped into a nearby High Tech station to spend some credits. I was still undecided about a Clipper, so I thought while I had the chance I would try out the Courier to see what all the hype was about.
My loadout is A rated for all the major components and I went for the 2 Pulse/ Rail Gun combo as a starting point. Having decent size power plant really helps (4A same size as my Vulture), but the shields are incredible for a small ship - with boosters my shields are 540mj. Its a similar type of loadout to my FDL - mainly bounty hunting/missions and CZ.
After setting up the module priorities I headed out to a nearby high intensity RES to see how it performs in combat. Cruising out of the station I was immediately impressed by the sound and maneuverability, after the FDL it felt very slick, a bit like my Vulture in a lot of ways.
I dropped into the RES and the first ship that I scan is a wanted "Dangerous" Clipper - oops, I wished I was back in my FDL. I was hoping for a small ship instance and now I get to play with the big boys. After a quick check of the rebuy value (375K Cr), thats cool I can afford to lose plenty of ships that cost 10% of my FBL rebuy.
So I decided to really test this little ship out. Here I go, just flown this baby out of the showroom and here I am taking on its big brother - oh well nothing ventured.....
I execute my standard tactics for engaging in RES, while he is scanning me I am dialling up his powerplant, then I wait till he turns away in disgust at no cargo!! Then I drop in close behind and a little low and open up with all I have got. I must have taken him by surprise because he did not go evasive or boost away.
The little class 2 pulse laser dropped his shields while I stayed on his tail out of that deadly barrage of fire. I quickly repositioned with my thrusters to get a clean shot at his power plant and fired the lasers and railgun for all it was worth. It was not long before I could see the powerplant dropping to 50% then 10% and a little while later "Boom" one less pirate clipper

After that I was straight into Pythons and Dropships - the Courier certainly packs a punch and can handle plenty of punishment as well.
So I am really very impressed with my new ship so far, its just a joy to fly, I might leave the FDL parked for a while as I cruise around the Empire systems looking for bounty - after all what better ship could you have in Empire Space??
