The Imperial Cutter.....

I have an A-rated FDL and farm HazRes. OK I it's possible I'm rubbish at combat but I'm quite nervous of going solo against Imperial Clippers. Also to some extent FAS'es. They can so easily turn to face me and shoot up my canopy no matter how much whizzing around I do. I used to play a Vulture and really made use of the manoeuverability. The FDL is fast and with a second joystick for lateral thrust and FA on / off I can buzz around them quite fast, but the imperial clipper always seems to be pointing at me with its guns trained on me.

I can imagine the FDL would be better jousting with a stealth build as it can run away more quickly and wouldn't need to turn as fast so it's quite possible that I am not using the FDL at the type of combat that it's best at.

I use two beam lasers, two multi-cannons and a huge cannon. I'm still wondering if the FDL is for me.

On the contrary, the FDL like the Corvette excels at point-blank range where it can make best use of the C4 PA. Shotgun builds are fairly popular too but have less combat endurance. Vindicator Jones's videos are probably the best at describing how exactly the FDL should be flown. Basically you want to engage from above/behind your target and manipulate thrust/throttle to keep out of their line of fire. Basically the goal is to 'pin' the other ship such that it can't get away or effectively fight back. This is easier to do the closer you are and also makes it easier to hit with the big guns. Win/Win.

Well we don't need an atmosphere for that, just gravity. Fly any approach to a planatery port +1G, the ship has an incredible amount of potential energy. Should make for some interesting combat when 2.1 arrives.

Yes you are correct, its what I should of put. I was just thinking of space vs planets, and my home planet was in my mind, and it has an atmosphere, my bad!

The thicker the atmosphere the more compressed the b&z area should be, the higer the gravity the more elongated the b&z area should be, I would guess, but its the gravity itself that allows for b&z in the first place.

Don't know if ed caps max speed in a dive though, that could make it a bit of a non starter if you cant translate enough attitude energy into speed to be a significant advantage over the lower ship.
