The Impractical Hammer

I honestly cannot find a way to make this railgun useful .. it's SO power hungry and causes so much heating that you have to sacrifice too much just to use one ... Let alone 3

For those of you who havn't seen it this is what it's like

edit: I understand that three Imperial Hammers is excessive

Um maybe because you have 3 of them, are you insane? 3 normal railguns would be just as bad on pretty much any ship but the courier is a tinderbox.

Of course it is overheating. You are using 3 of them. Have you considered only using 1 hammer? I imagine the idea is you get 2 Rail guns in 1 spot rather than having to equip 2. It's like having another hardpoint.

Four are really manageable in some ships. I think the Courier looks like it is having some bad issues cooling off by that video. Why does it cool so slow?

I put 4 in my FDL. It was amusing.
Yeah I was thinking about getting an FDL just for the Imperial Hammer ... but it's sad that there's only a couple ships that can make it a handy dandy weapon considering it takes a medium hard point .. the Railgun is SO IMPERIAL but Neither of the Imperial ships can make good use of it ( the clipper / Courier)

Perhaps it isn't intended for use on lesser ships such as the Courier. Have you tried it on a vehicle with better power (and heat) characteristics? Perhaps a Python? Also, was your power plant A-rated?

I run 3 on my Python no problems.

You can fire 3 salvos before needing to pop a sink vs 4 salvos with normal rails.

Normal rails are functionally better but the Hammer looks and sounds so awesome that i dont mind the minor performance hit.

Courier is not designed to be a railboat.

yes I pimped out that courier hard and even bought it reflective bulkheads

A ten million credit (upgraded) spacecraft should have no problems running railguns. My 5.5 million dollar Cobra runs double class 2 rails with no problems at all. I would expect a 10.5 million ship to easily handle triple rails. Unless there are hidding heatsinks in ships we don't know about that are different per craft... And we should know--buyer beware and all.

...

Did you want to blow up?

It's a Courier good sir, it's a Courier...

I'll bet I'd get a good laugh out of firing 3 hammers on a Courier during Silent Running! Fire once and blow yourself up!
