It has been a while but I have been stopped 3 times today by a posse of 4 Federal Security ships an Anaconda & 3 fighters.

Now that's not happened to me before.

Player interdictions in Beta 3

It looks like we'll finally be able to interdict other ships:

I think it's very important to remember it's going to happen if you play in Open. Not only that but it's more than likely going to get abused and over used as it is Beta.

I think it's precisely for those reasons that we should try to play in Open as much as we can because this will need to be thoroughly tested so that it's where it needs to be come release.

+1

Have been group playing but agree that more open play needs doing for testing

well when we started off I saw massive traffic through systems on the bulletin boards but these days...at least away from the old 'core' traffic is much much less.
I do not think anyone will be able to abuse it especially when you consider the bubble will expand even more making it very unlikely for anyone to lay in wait
somewhere and be very successful. Hahahahahahaha rofl,

i sort of agree with you but coupled with the FSD scanners giving people the ability to follow you through hyperspace it matters less if there are only a few people about.

i would therefore strongly urge any organised private groups to get their members together so they can properly test interdiction and avoidance techniques with a good range of ships/upgrades.

once tethered can you break it? how close do you need to be to snag someone? how easy is it to get away if you are stopped? there are dozens and dozens of questions/tests to find answers for that can only really be done under the controlled conditions offered by a group.

I'll be leading the charge in the PvE group i'm a member of, i hope a few of the other groups join us as the time is upon us where we are really going to have to take testing seriously to make sure it gets done right.

Traders will likely stay in solo mode, build up creds to get a better ship, then move into online mode, because lets face it if you don't you'll end up as griefer / banther foodooo

There will also be traders who play in open mode from the get-go for the thrill of it.

Don't assume that everyone in open is out to kill you, btw .. there are nice people who will play there too ;)

Interdict me and get shot - some of us will not take lightly to being pulled out of supercruise.
Crime will have it's punishments. Interdiction is assault, if it is figured in the game correctly.
Risk vs Reward - mess with me, get shot up.
I am but a Explorer/Trader - leave me alone or pay the price.

Just my 2 cents.

I think I've read those same statements from you somewhere else. I'm sooo looking forward to hopefully meeting you online one day doing one of my killing civilian missions so that we can pewpew the s**t out of your ships, Sir! :D

Indeed and I'm one of the, most of the time ;) but I'm certainly gonna be trying this out heavily at some point.

That's becoming your mantra KB :) I agree, as I have said before, that it should be considered a crime (in the correct systems) but be prepared for it to happen a fair amount. As AndyB said, this is one of the most important things to get right as it will have a massive effect on how people play and perceive the game.

I'm also excited about that. Group interdictions should work too. I wonder how you find NPCs and players to interdict.

I agree - which is why I believe that it should not be possible to distinguish between player and NPC in supercruise. Because of the speeds involved in supercruise I believe that identifying a pilot as a player and not an NPC should require a scan in normal space only. ID a ship name or rego in supercruise fine, but the ability to distinguish player from NPC in supercruise is the easiest way to ensure the interdiction mechanic is abused by those who wish to target only players. For the legitimate pirate/thief, it should not matter whether their target is player or NPC - the objective is the cargo, not necessarily the pilot. It might have a flow on effect though in terms of tracking down a particular bounty (ie attached to a pilot), and I'm not sure how to get around that exactly. Rather than being unable to distinguish between player and NPC in supercruise, it could be made very difficult or requiring a particular type of (expensive) scanner upgrade, as an alternative. Either way, I am hoping that with the introduction of interdictions we'll see the removal of the hollow symbols on the scanner denoting players (perhaps restricting that symbology to those on your friends list or private group?).

I constantly see people claiming that no one will play in open mode, or that traders will stick to Solo, and i just dont see it. I have played this game in Open mode very single time until last week when I had issues with network. The experience has been great, theres been no 'griefing' and I have had a few genuine dogfights with other players.

The introducton of player interdictions comes at a time when the playable area is expanding enormously, sure, we'll run across other people, but thats part of the game, part of why I boughtinto this universe in teh first plcae. It's not just AI and pre-set events, its a living world with other people out there doing the same stuff I am.

Personally i'd rather see the solo dropped altogether, but I know it was an early promise from Frontier.

Its important that its balanced but as a primarily non-PVP player i do welcome the excitement interdiction brings both human and NPC.

My main concern is allowing players to know who other players are, its worked fine in early beta but i think the differentiation on scanners needs to be addressed or it will lead to humans purely targeting humans and leaving NPCs alone. In my mind a ship is a target regardless of who is piloting it, pulling something out of SC and seeing its another player should be an 'oh crap this just got interesting moment' not a pre determined choice.
I think in super cruise we can live with solid targets and ship type (eventually maybe ship name as well), resolving targets any more should only be possible in normal space with whatever your sensor range is depending on upgrades.
