Background
This is old news for us old pilots, but for the newcomers of the game:
Raxxla is something hidden and apparently in-game. It could something totally mundane like a rock or a moon.
Comets are also a part of the game, sort of.
Comets are visible stellar bodies to Stellarforge, but are invisible in-game to us the players.
So the galaxy map, system map, contacts panel will not show a comet.
Their removal, at a guess, was that at the original launch of the game, the planetary tech wasn't there, yet. That tech came a year later with the launch of Elite Dangerous: Horizons, and they were dead proud as they said getting the small misformed planetoids was quite an achievement.
And we can imagine that comets (again at a guess) are going to be small potatoes and odd shapes(?)
(citation needed) Comets still haven't been included "in-game" after that point
as there is no gameplay opportunity to warrant the work of putting them in.
Let's face it, Comets when not falling towards their perihelion, are just cold lumps of failed protoplanetary junk, presumably
and they will look like basic icy-planetoids spamming out our system maps. If you want an example of comet spam, Go to Sol, and look at the extra planetary bodies and see the mess it causes.
Personally, I think aesthetically, it would be just cool to have comets in-game, tails or not, game-play or not, just to add some variety to some of the solar systems.
Maybe, limit them to just the ones that cause problems to navigation.
Comets cause a problem to mystery hunters.
Since comets are a part of the stellar forge simulation which drives the placement of the stellar bodies AND the human-built installations, so we can have stations orbiting comets, which aren’t visible.
The comets gravitational silhouette still remains in-game.
It’s a bizarre quirk, but us old hands are used to it.
And like Obi-wan, we find ourselves in a similar dilemma.
Raxxla hunters who look at the Codex for clues, will see Tau Ceti being the first recorded mention.
In the Tau-Ceti system, there is the Space station, Avagadro's Enterprise, which appears to be literally in an orbit of it's own.
The station orbits the main star, independently of a stellar body.
But under closer investigation, the station does actually appear to be orbiting something which is invisible.

Stations that orbit nothing.....this is the residue of the invisble-comets that other commanders have noted during the years after the launch of the game, to the point we go meh, whatever...
But ALSO this (presumed invisible comet) is in the damned System where mystery object of Raxxla was first mentioned, so if you didn't know about this in-game Quirk, and you are a Raxxla hunter, guess what assumption one might make?
And Fun fact, the station is named after the scientist Amedo Avogadro, the scientist who established the proportional factor that relates to molecular density, the so-called Avogadro Constant and ironically his station appears to be orbiting the exact opposite, a non-existent dense object.
And before you dismissively reply with "have you tried to fly in normal space from the station port and see if you can find something".
Guess what I am doing WHILST I I've been writing this obnoxiously long post during the last 2 hour of my life whilst putting together that lengthy timeline and getting the relevant screenshots for imgur! I'm 7.0 Mn from the station and thinking of walking my dog for a bit!!! (still nothing!)
EDIT: the station is still fast moving in it's orbit. I just noticed despite flying with flight assist off, the station has move from the compass's center point.
EDIT EDIT: 16.0Mn out, looking at the screelshot, I could see the whole orbit 5mn out.
I put the supercruise back on to fly back to the station and sure enough, I'd flow right through the stations orbital ring and out the otherside. Flying back , it looks like the barycenter is only (roughly) just over 1000 km away. So no much of an epic journey

Yoda: Mmm. Lost a planet Master Obi-Wan has. How embarrassing. How embarrassing.

Obi-Wan: It ought to be... here, but it isn’t. Gravity is pulling all the stars in the area towards this spot.
Yoda: Hmm. Gravity’s silhouette remains, but the star and all the planets disappeared they have. How can this be? Hmm? A thought? Anyone?
Jedi child: Master? Because someone erased it from the archive memory.
Yoda: Truly wonderful the mind of a child is. The Padawan is right. Go to the centre of gravity's pull and find your planet you will. Hmm. The data must have been erased.
And like Obi-wan, we find ourselves in a similar dilemma.

Thanks to the lore hunters, compiling the tourist information and from various books into the various wiki's
2151 Human Hyperspace travel (invented by Li Qin Jao) started with hyperspace probes finding various habitable planets, Taylors Colony in Tau Ceti being the first.
2190 Delta Pavonis and the Altair colonies were founded.
2230 Beta Hydra Colony founded
2242 Federation Accord, making the colonies (by force if necessary) a part of the Federation of Star Systems (Taylors Colony being one of the first signatories)
2280 Martian Relic discovered (presumable a fossil of the early stages of failed life on mars, or presumable something more sinister? The Feds took it an kept it a secret)
2288 Eutienses (but landfall occurs after terraforming had completed in 2312)
2191 Second Terraforming attempt on Mars successfully completed
2292 The Republic of Achenar is founded by Pacifist and all-round doo-Gooder Marlin Duval who didn't like the ways of the Federation, herself and other political idealists flew out to the known edge of human space to escape the Federation.
2296 Marlin Duval is assassinated, probably by her Evil brother, who took over, wiped out the indigenous species of Achenar 6d and formed the Empire of today.
2296 Raxxla is first mentioned by an Engineer in Tau-Ceti.
To put this into perspective from
2339 Sirrus System was colonized by the Sirius corporation with it's near-monopoly on hyperspace drive fuel and engine tech. (I believe, Tantalum is the fuel and was mined from Salome's planet in the Prism system ?)
2412 to
2422 the "Old World" Colonies of Diso, Lave, Leesti, Oerve, Reorte, Riedquat, Tionisla, uszaa, Zoance were founded.
2696 The Galactic Corporation (Galcorp) was founded upon those "old world colonies" which was a precursor to the Alliance. Galcorp could stand toe-to-toe and became economically independent from both the Federation and Imperials. In fact, Galcorp went as far as to try and isolate and become a self-contained entity.
2849 First (unofficial) Thargoid encounters
3100 Pilots Federation is formed, as well as their ranking systems like "Elite", Commander Jameson being the first.
3125 First Official Thargoid Encounter in Lave, Reversed engineers Thargoid hyperdrive were derived, and were Quirium based.
3174 Collapse of galcorp and the loss of Thargoid based hyperdrive.
3251 Sirius crop launches and loses the Anteres who's experimental hyperdrive failure was similar to Federation Starship One's failure.
3252 Failed mission to find Thargoid tech, based on experimental hyperdrive, presumed to be sabotaged by INRA.
3253 Successful mission to find Thargoid tech with the return of a Thargoid ship.
3278 New hyperdrive on sale from Siruis Corporation, can make days of journey into seconds.
3297 New Hyperspace engines are derived off Thargoid tech, and installed in all space-ships ushering in a new era of space travel,
3300 new pilots as a part of a beta backing process of a 21rst century game called Elite Dangerous appear and start aggrevating the systems with their nomadic ways.

So the extent of human space by the mention of Raxxla was roughly 150ly away and that took place roughly 150 years after hyperspace travel so that's 1 light year per year max speed
That being said. The political idealists (who formed the empire), dashed out as far as they could to get as far away from the feds as possible AND THEN set up colonies and expanded after that.
The Feds, if we take Lave to be a good marker of colony establishing, were moving MUCH slower, about 0.5 ly per year, so by the time Raxxla is mentioned the fed had colonized a 75 ly bubble, and it was pointed out on the Raxxla thread, it would be a spiky bubble.
But is interstellar comms faster than light, or was lightspeed still the top(?) So we could be talking bubble of 75 lys out and 75 lys back.
