For me the movie was great. Better than Star Wars and much better than Return of the Jedi. Of all the Star Wars movies (of which there are now 4, don't anyone talk to me of abominations), this ranks second after Empire. It was also my second favorite movie of the year (after Mad Max).
It had one scene which made me do a double take and think "cop out"
Poe Dameron popping up after being left for dead in the desert. It was not the most inspired way to go about his story in the movie, they should have at least showed him springing free from the Tie fighter or something earlier.
FuzzySpider, it's ironic that you used that word to discribe the prequels. As for your spoiler, how do you think the First Order tracked the Resistance to their home base? I suspect that either (spoiler) or (spoiler) is a brainwashed spy, completely unaware that they're working for the bad guys.
(Sorry I can't post real spoiler tags from my cell phone)
Yes this was my experience too, although the first showing was in a cinema with poorly aligned 3D projection and rock-hard seats, so it wouldn't have been hard to be more enjoyable second time.
Picking holes in the plot is a little like shooting fish in a washing up bowl that is only an inch deep (irony intended).
I thought it was a decent film/homage, and on a par in so many ways (most good) with JJA's Star Trek reboot.
Agreed, although I found it was a little odd that the only real boring parts of both films involved giant CGI creature encounters that did nothing for the plot, Kirk's encounter in the snow world and those blobby things on Han's ship.
I liked it. Probably because the story was so similar to IV-The New Hope it was strange, except the hero is now a girl, the princess is now a prince-charming. Young girl leaves the farm and meets up with a robot holding data-files, falls in with rough-necks and discovers her true calling and a strange old man (of old). Hmmm.
Just saw it and I didn't like it. Maybe if it would have been marketed as a reboot I would have had different feelings about it, but I expected Episode VII and I received a rerun. Forcing old motifs into what tries to be a new storyline didn't work - it created more plot holes than expected.
