The journey begins...

So my plan is to use this thread to post progress and updates to my galaxy circumnavigation.

I will be making this trip in an Asp Explorer. I will be starting this journey at Lave and will be moving in a counter clockwise direction around the Galaxy.

My equipment on board includes fuel scoop (duh), detailed surface scanner, advanced discovery scanner, heat sinks, field maintenance repair units. I will keep weapons on board until I am getting closer to leaving civilized space, just in case.

Goals of this journey are to gather the sights of this wonderful galaxy we live in, attach my name to a few first discovered systems/planets, and along the way keep a log of the journey which I will type here as half update/half role play for anybody interested enough to read it.

TLDR version: ROAD TRIP!!!!!

Oooh head out to Statue of Liberty then, if you're going that way. Take screenshots because I couldn't be bothered to go out there :D

I'll make it a point to do that. I live in New York State so it would t seem right not to go to the Statue of Liberty nebula.

All the best for your trip Docjas :)

May the Neutron Stars be kind to your canopy and the ELW's be plentiful! :D

CMDR Log #1
12/6/15 0030

It is such a strange thing really. Time. Once, our lives were measured in such a short span. We were born, we lived, we'd die. A cycle repeated since the beginning of humankind. Limitations in technology meant that major accomplishments were few and far between. The wheel, the boat, the car, the plane. The spaceship. At first a monumental achievement, four days to reach Earth's moon. Such an accomplishment for two men to walk where no others had walked before. Now a trip easily made in the blink of an eye.

I have only been a commander of my own ship for two months. I have smuggled. I have traded leathery eggs, leestian evil juice, and lavian brandy to the highest bidder. I have killed for money, criminals and...others. But the expanse is too tempting. So much sky. So much to see. I've overstayed my welcome in civilized space. They're after me. Their guns will do them no good. They can follow if they wish. They won't get me. My ship, Phoenix, has never let me down. And when I return from my trip, Ill be a hero. My crimes forgotten.

Like our ancestors who first sailed the oceans, flew the skies, and entered the void, I depart.

CMDR Docjas18 Signing off.

Out of character: a rather impromptu beginning where I try to be full of wisdom and pretty words. My creative writing is a bit rusty, hope it comes back in time. Enjoy the ride all :)

CMDR Log #2
12/7/15 0850

I awoke today and for the first time I realized that I don't have to keep looking over my shoulder. No bounty hunters out here. I have travelled 700LY into unknown space. So much beauty. While I long for action, I also crave the peace and quiet on my voyage.

Yesterday I found a world completely covered with water. Hurricanes were visible, likely raging across the planet. Their wrath easy to write off when viewed from space. When I checked the nav system, it appears nobody had lay claim to this system. Then it hit me.

I was the first person ever to travel to this place in the galaxy. The first to fly it, the first to orbit it's star and celestial body. I need more. I have decided to continue my journey. I checked my stores and rations. I have enough on board for over a year. Phoenix is holding up great as well. It is good to stretch the ship's legs. But I worry. This far from civilized space. All it would take is a mall accident. One slip and I am done for. I've decided that there are worst ways and worst places to die. Of course, dying isn't plan A.

End of log.

Good read CMDR! I look forward to more updates!

Please ensure that you have www.fuelrats.com saved in your comms computer... for those moments when it seems the only type of star in existence is small, brown and fuelless.

Also.. please remember not to sniff the fuel.

Fly Safe! o7

Haha will do. I am keeping the website in mind. I've got a great fuel scoop and good jump range. I top off every able star I come to so hopefully won't need the rats.

Side question, I have a ton of screen shots so far I want to share but am truly quite technologically ignorant. How do I get them so I can post them here in a message?

There's probably a better way, but I post them to my twitter from my XB1, and then grab them off that to a local machine (PC) when I get to one, and then upload it from the local machine straight to the forums.

Thank you both. I don't have Twitter or Facebook or any of that so I need to get it off the Xbox somehow. Ill figure something out. Must be another way to get it from game DVR to the Internet. I've got some beautiful images that I think people will love.

edit: if done right this should be an image of my ship looking at a blue white star

On xboxdvr.com find your photo and right-click (or hold-press) the download button. Copy that url. You'll get something like
http://screenshotscontent-t4001.xboxlive.com/000900000990e55a-1591aece-b1e3-4b52-b03b-807cd1ce6b44/Screenshot-Original.png?sv=2014-02-14&sr=c&sig=6DkpxCNSBlZURHYP4LomT%2FURGWcvUGOORWKtKOjBC24%3D&st=2015-12-08T14%3A20%3A00Z&se=2015-12-08T15%3A25%3A00Z&sp=r&__gda__=1449588300_68fbfa2a4b34ea30c2f8544d496f0900

Which is a complete mess and no help at all. Remove everything after Original.png and put it between image tags like this

Got it! Thank you much. I edited my post to include one, here's some more. Below are a nice silhouette of Phoenix against a water world, and a scan of an ice planet that I thought took a good photo. I'll keep playing with screens to get better lighting and view

Some more images from the journey. Sorry they are so dark, the look brighter when I capture the image.

Just st a simple star I used for a wide shot, and a gas giant my wife found while I was making dinner. She was so happy she found something. Had a metal rich ring so hopefully her discovery will pay off. May try to type another commander log later.
