The Keelback is a great exploration platform

Last night I outfitted my Keelback for planetary exploration. It carries a Taipan, an SRV, plus some cargo space and shields.

Makes for a fine group of vehicles to get out and explore planet surface features. Flying the Taipan around is like having a free roaming camera. When I find something interesting, I back up/away to get a geographic reference. Then land the Keelback and head out in the SRV.

And I've not hired any crew, I just order the Keelback to either follow or hold.

The Keelback also lets me outfit this setup in a scale useful for extended trips, with the full scanner suite and a 5A fuel scoop:

Very nice indeed. A good low budget explorer.

I recently added the fighter bay with an imp fighter to my exploraconda and I am loving it for scouting planetary surfaces. Plus it adds some variety to the gameplay when you are away for a long time.

Personally I like something with at least double that jump range though.
Before you say "But a big jump range makes you miss all the sights in between", know that I like to explore waaaay out there. I get to my destination area then take my time.

I have heavily modded everything and I use it full time :D

Seriously, though ... class 5 dirty drives and FSD range increase really makes this ship shine ;)

Not mention the modded hull, power distributor, power plant, shield, etc ...

Now if only they'd give my crew escape pods, I'd spend all my time leveling up a pilot from Harmless to beyond Master and become the scariest Keelback in space ;)

Oh, and paintjobs would be nice too.
