The known galaxy - 2D and 3D map

Greetings,

A couple of resources for those looking to identify new areas to explore.

2D map of the known galaxy (Fast Loading - <1 Mb in size)

3D map of the known galaxy (40+ MB. Takes a while to load, but it will come up.)

Both are based on the data stored in EDSM. Updated every 24 hours to show new data.

Hope it helps,

Lelna

Hah, it's funny. Without you saying, I instantly guessed where exactly the images were of. The Roncevaux crossing and the route from the Sublustris Beacon to Beagle Point are like an 8-lane motorway on that first image.

Nice, liking the time-since-last-visit colour coding - although it makes me feel even more lonely, that track in the NW corner that looks all alone on the zoomed out 2D map is me...

This is excellent [up]

If ok with you I'll link these on the Galactic Mapping thread :)

I meant by using EDD, or within EDD, not within that particular map up there ^

Click the 2D Map or 3D Map button. The 2D one will draw your route over one of Corbin's lovely maps. The 3D one will let you see your route as a line or just as points, you can optionally include the rest of the EDSM datapoints and stations and include one of more of the 2D maps as a backdrop.

The 2D one has a save button to let you easily export the picture with your route. I might write one of those for the 3D map one day, until then just screenshots. A couple of (well out of date now) versions of mine behind the cut

Thanks Lelna, these are great and compliment the other available resources. One small thing though, please could you extend the bottom of the 2D map, you're missing the most southerly systems!

Would it also be possible to include a colour key on the 2D map?

Yes, I'm working on the color key.

As for extending the map, that's also something I'm working on. I think I messed up one of the border calculations for translating coordinates from galactic to image.

Thanks!

Have had this bookmarked for some time now and checked the 'progress' regularily, especially since 2.1 - really nice visualisation there [up] +1

I'll be taking pretty much the same route when I leave BP in the next few days. I do hope you left some shinies for me

Allitnil, I have fixed the border issue (I think) so all points now show.
