The lack of communication

I know that FD has this thing where they hide what they're working on until a month or two before it's released... But I've gotta say, I'm getting quite tired of it. I look at the devs of Star Citizen who literally have WEEKLY in depth updates about what's coming up, what they are working on in detail, what plans they have in the future... You have a clear understanding of the direction in which the game is going.

I would really like to see that from FD IMO. I personally get frustrated at the current style of communication. It doesn't get me excited about information being released, and it's not fun for me to have to wait a month before the update is released before I even hear about it. No one can give ideas/feedback to help development if you keep us in the dark. It's just not workin.

For me no.

It will just lead to disappointment when features/ideas/prototypes are scrapped or reworked.

Talk features only when there's something solid to deliver please.
I think it's okay to TALK about features they are working on. Showing though.. Yes, then it seems to be solid. I personally can't understand why someone wouldn't want to know what direction a game they invested in is going...

I wouldn't want them to do what CIG/RSI does. Too much of what they do is shock and awe. Plus, I've lost all trust in them after multiple missed milestone dates and saying Star Marine is two weeks away for the better part of a year.

Certainly they know what they are generally capable of 6months to 1 year away. If not, I'd think they were a bunch of green new hires who know nothing about their own engine and game.

Don't be surprised if the current lack of communication is FD seeing if they can get some middle ground on the instant/non-instant transfer debate.

They've not weighed in to the thread-naught (at the time of writing).

Or maybe the whole thing can blow over until BETA and the point can be made then.

Oh, so taking 6 months to release the engineers update didn't make you lose trust? It was a terribly received update. You know why? The playerbase couldn't give any feedback in time, due to bad communication. Then they had to spend extra time re-developing some parts of the Engineers, further delaying progress. I think you're too lost in the ED sauce to think logically.

Well we do know what direction it's heading, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 features have been announced.

SC have weekly discussions about what's coming up, in a years time, and these features often don't materialise.

I honestly prefer the Frontier approach of showing only when it's gonna happen, and for that you don't want a weekly "show" you're forced to fill with whatever you can find.

I think while ED was being made, pre-release, there was a lot of communication about features and how they were being implemented.

The difference is, the games out now, as a playable game.

Star Citizen is still in development.

This.

As for Star Citizen, the day that Frontier start copying that ridiculous spamfest of endless hype and jpeg sales is the day I delete ED from my hard drive.
Did you not see the demo? Or even played the game? People CHOOSE to buy those "jpeg" sales (which btw WILL be added into the game at a quick pace, which is obvious if you have done any sort of research on the game, or even glanced at their website). The hype they are producing is based off of real in-game mechanics. Not combat-heavy cinematic trailers that don't even happen in the game.

The problem isn't communication. The issue is some people hear an off-handed comment about a feature that might, possibly, sometime, perhaps happen then act as if it were etched on Moses tablets as a promise from on-high.

I'm with Bitstorm, "Talk features only when there's something solid to deliver please."

LOL

Making value judgement about someone you don't know while not addressing the points I made...good job, buddy

We had time to give feedback on that...FDev was just being so        g stubborn and obtuse they didn't do anything about it until the situation was well boiled over. FWIW, I think Engineers is good, post-patches.

And don't think for a second that I don't distrust FDev, too. Ever since Powerplay I've been highly skeptical. However, I hope that I'm fair.

Lol, here we go.

It's possible that the direction of E:D is somewhat fluid based on what their customers want. SC promises all sorts of stuff but it ain't here. I say let the work of fdev speak for itself (hold other game devs to that standard)!

Star Citizen are selling the promise of a game, they are not accountable for the info they give out,who knows if they will deliver on all of these promises.
FD are in quite a different situation. They have a venomous fan base that will kick off over the smallest thing.
This is bad for publicity. Bad for the future of the game. And bad for moral.

Yes I saw the demo. 10-FPS glitchy graphics and all. And yes, I have seen their send-us-money-now-for-spaceships-later website. I have also seen websites for organ-enlargement medication, websites explaining how signing my name in CAPITALS means I don't need to pay taxes, and websites selling pills which make a car run on tapwater. If that sort of thing rocks your boat, fine - but personally I buy games based on what they deliver, rather than on vague promises that they are going to do something-or-another at some indefinite time in the future.
