The Lack of Sanity for Hardcore Combat Pilots?

So, as well all know, Powerplay is venturing closer and closer. As we rummage through the changes of the beta patch notes and such cases. I have one question.
The one thing I always understood about Powerplay was that there was base rewards within each power, and then a seperate ladder reward system for those who stand out, who devote most of their time within a power. Now we have ventured down a different route, one of allowing everyone to reach these reward levels at some point. But yet I question, what would the sensible need for Hardcore pilots be in this situation then, because at this point you changed the structure to help out the basic pilots who only provide low amount of hours so they wouldn't feel left out. However this hurt's hardcore pilots in the process because now there is no need for Combat Pilots, because they will feel that their efforts of wasting 40-60 hours in one week on one system, only to end up with the same rewards as a casual pilot who was taking his sweet time enjoying a nice tea break before a sortie.

So let me ask this, is there any actual value to Hardcore Combat Pilots anymore? Where is the friendly competition, Cooperation and Competition do co-exist, I don't know why this is a strange term. I just don't want to see my efforts go wasted when I could take my sweet time doing it like a casual pilot.

Well with the system the way it is now it would still be hard for a casual player to reach the higher ranks, as each 'cycle' you lose half of your merit points... at least I think it's half. It is at least a significant percentage.

This whole thing has been vaguely explained, especially with the recent changes in beta, it's like I don't even know what to think now as a hardcore pilot, because I was willingly going to work as a team anyways. I just would prefer it if I stood out like the EGOMANIAC I am, to some JA with 5 hours that same week, when I put in 60+ while working a 38 hour work week. Just my two cents. I thought it was appropriate to have scaled rewards for hardcore players, and its definitely possible to have a fixed reward system alongside that for casuals, so I mean, it's not like it's certainly impossible, the only reason they went that way was that because the Cycle wipes out half of your merit points anyways, and that's after every week I assume. Which is perfectly logical as well. Just i can't help but feel the bitter taste of the change being done to hand hold casuals.

Yeah, I think it's really too early to be able to tell how any of this is going to work considering the rapid changes that have taken place this week. I think it was mentioned in the AMA that there will be a video explaining everything so we might just have to wait for that.
