The last free big update???

Yesterday, a moderator of the forum of the German PlaCo community ("spielerheim.de > PlanetCoster) wrote that 1.4. was the last big free update. In the future we would just get small update and fixes.
Is it true?

They got the information directly from Frontier at gamescom.

As far as i know Frontier didn't reveal any plans on what to expect from now on. On last weeks livestream Bo confirmed the same thing basically, that there was no information to be shared regarding future updates right now.

Im fine with this. They have supported the game for a year with some great updates.

Id happily pay for future updates. I would like them to be more like expansion packs however. Large DLC for about £15 each would be perfect.

Bug fixes and missing features should still be free...[mouth shut]

Just to reiterate Vampiro's point: we currently have no information regarding any future updates for Planet Coaster. If and when we do, it will be posted on our official channels (which is not Spielerheim) - the forums, official subreddit, newsletter and social media, and our official livestreams.

Thx for this quick answer @Bo! ;)
So, if it is ok, I will forward your answer to the German PlaCo-Forum. ;)

i think the same like Rhuloe ... we have seen so much free updates last year ... Frontier should start now making money with payed bigger dlcs like Zoo, Water .. or another content pack :)

You know this is annoying me, that my fellow Countrymen just make stuff up when they don't have any definite news.

The same Rumor popped up even before, and i don't know where it comes from.

Why would anybody think this game would stop being updated? Theres still so much more to add lol. I know there is no "official news" but the devs have said numerous times that they plan on supporting PlanCo for many years, just like EliteDangerous. Plus if you watch SchematicsTeam they just released a video discussing mods and the possibility of official mod support (like swapping textures on walls)... the game just feels like its finally out of beta state IMO, and still needs a lot of improvements. This is a "work-in-progress" game and if Frontier wants people to keep playing they need to keep adding more things. Hopefully we get some full expansions like Planet Lagoon and Planet Safari, but even then the base game will still be in need of getting updates

Well, I wouldn't mind if Frontier would publish 2-3 further free updates (of course, not as big as the anniversary one) with 2-3 classic rides I miss in the game:

a classic powered coaster, a bobslet coaster, a Schwarzkopf Looping Coaster and a 1-2 further flat ride, e.g. a Breakdancer. Also a variable water ride, which we can use either as a dark ride (Pirates of the Caribbean) or as a relaxing outoor raft ride.
All other "special" coaster/tracked-ride/flat-ride models and maybe special themed/styled coaster cars, which we could use for our coasters, could be offered as DLCs.

Better: instead of offering countless DLCs, I prefer 1 or 2 big Add-ons!

There are business reasons for smaller DLCs... they are less risky to produce. Say a big addon gets developed, and nobody wants it. Or the sales are disappointing, then you wouldn't see any more big dlcs. Smaller Dlcs are a bit safer to develop.

But with that said, i think the Spooky Pack has proven that big Meaty Addons could be developed. And people would buy it. So i hope Frontier doesn't regard them as "too risky" anymore :D

While the Spooky DLC was very big, the other 3 were very small. Future DLC's need to be in the middle.

With PC's sales figures there is no real risk involved in making DLC. So of course will there be more DLC.

And of course will there be more updates. PC simply needs them. There's still work to be done to get the tools working smoothly and fill in the gaps in the building menu etc. etc. That's what the devs comitted to, right?

Not sure what you're talking about, Spooky DLC was some 250 odd pieces? I don't know, most of them seemed to be pumpkins anyway! [wink]

The Munsters, Back to the Future, and Knight Rider DLC's were small. Spooky DLC was BIG.

spooky dlc was big? :D Frontier probably laughs at this statement ;) ... RCT3 Wild or Soaked was big ...maybe Frontier already has plans for such large dlcs [cool]

We need larger DLCs bigger than Spooky for around 11.95 each expansion pack.

As for updates we need them to resolve base game issues!

Yes, Spooky was big for a DLC. Wild and Soaked were expansion packs (almost like new games back in the day), something very different. (tecnically today anything you download as an add-on to a game could be considered a DLC if you like , however generally DLCs typically reefers to some specific smaller add-on to a game (like the licences packs or the new scenery pack), not a game changer in itself. Expansions add a whole new dimension to the game (new story line, or, for RCT3, the additional of building wildlife parks or water parks.

The Munsters, Back to the Future, and Knight Rider DLC's were small. Spooky DLC was BIG.

Spooky was bigGER than the lame licensed DLCs, but spooky was still relatively small compared to a full expansion.

Now if you combine the 3 licensed DLCs into one pack at the price of $10 and compare the licensed DLCs as a set of 3 to the 1 spooky set, I would say they are about equal in size and still not worth their price... $20 for a bunch of scenery pieces is not my idea of great DLC, especially when you consider the unlimited possibilities we could have with a UGC/CSO/Mod editor, I'll patiently wait before buying DLCs

Who decides what is big and small?

You can only say that when you compare them. But it's still comparing apples with pears.
I don't think the amount of time that goes into modelling is the same as it was with RCT3.

That being said, big, small, mediocre. It's all opinions, I'd like any content that comes out as I feel the price is reasonable comparing to what's in the pack. Not looking at other released content.

Whenever it's free I'm not even complaining about it's content. Maybe only about all the bugs that keep slipping in.

What about comparing the price of the DLCs to the base game of Planet Coaster? The base game is $45 and the DLC is like $22 which is half the price of the base game... now I ask myself, if I pay $45 for the full game, does $22 get me an equal amount of content as half the base game? My answer is no.

Now lets consider that there will be more DLCs in the future, that means eventually the DLCs will surpass the price of the base game, but with less content. Its fine if you want to "support frontier for a great game" they are a great company, but not everybody will feel that way.
