Some people will dislike a movie because it doesn't faithfully follow an original or the book, but I like a new spin on a story![]()
Sometimes a remake is better than the original...not all the time, but sometimes. Pacific Rim certainly wasn't a terrible movie...it was actually a fairly decent movie and if a sequel is on the way, I'd happily part with the admission price to see it.
As for originals? Controversially here, I'm gonna say I love the new star trek series better than the originals. Love the new Transformers franchise but I'll always have a thing fer giant robots and I grew up with the originals in the 80s. Much like the star trek movies, the transformers stories have veered wildly away from what the original story was, but it's been done well even though it vexes the purists fans who all cry "blasphemy!"
I was hoping to see an old 80s favorite character enter the transformers world, but as yet no joy. Few would remember the name "Wreck'Gar" from the planet Junk...the character was basically a transformer with severe ADHD...compared with the old Murdock from the A team type personality. And I'll also admit some slight disappointment about not seeing the terrible trio in action...Galvatron, Scourge and Cyclonis. Even though we now have galvatron, the backstory to his creation is vastly different from the original who was rebuilt from the remains of megatron by the planet killer, along with Scourge and Cyclonis who travelled back to Cybertron and took control of the decepticon army to invade earth via the space bridge. Also from the original storyline, bumblebee was destroyed utterly and rebuilt into Goldbug but maybe one day they will read the old comics and stumble upon an idea they could use.
Same as the Batman trilogy...Christian Bale was way better than the likes of George Cloony who must have been the worst choice for Batman ever. In saying that, even those crimes against celluloid were but a remake of earlier films too, but the most recent Batman trilogy is now what I would deem to be the best yet. Not too sure how the new version will work out though...not entirely sure I like the idea of another Marvel clone with the bat playing nothing more than a bit part among a host of other bit parts which also brings me to the last point...I actually really liked the new superman movie over the original Christopher Reeve movies. Like star trek, the originals were great movies...at the time, but with all the advances in cinema, the remake just hits the right note, while the originals start collecting dust in the bottom of the DVD tower only to be brought out every year or so simply from nostalgia.
Some do, some don't ^^
