The latest proof (if any is needed) that Devo is dumb...How'd I die?

Hehe - so there I wuz; out VO mining and bored out of my mind.
I'm collecting lots of the things, it's a pretty good run but wowwwwwww watching grass grow would be an exciting diversion.

Now - I ran into a bit of a problem in the supplies department, in that while the Condi I'm using runs on hydrogen fuel, the pilot runs on tea; and I was down to my last bag of Red Rose.

Yup - this critical issue needed to be solved, and fast. I'd just finished mining out a 'roid and had about 60 in the hold. What I did NOT want to do was exit the game and come back, because sure as shootin' some pirate would appear and annoy me. What I did instead was exit the cold cloud, boosted away in a random direction about 20 klicks or so and tucked myself into a collection of 'roids and made like a rock, shutting down all nonessential systems to keep the signature low. I then went to the store - a fifteen minute trip.
Well...it was fifteen minutes, until I saw that beef was on sale...nice.
Great crop of veggies too; some peppers would be nice...
By the time I hit the carrots, I was in full grocery mode and did my monthly stockpile. Halfway back I realized I'd forgotten...yup, the tea. Back I go.

Of course, while I'm there, I really ought to stock up on staples as well, so off to the bulk store for beans, rice and flour, and while there, you know - the Mennonites make such good food so might as well stop in and see them too.

It was a lovely afternoon. :)

Well - you can guess. I got back home, put my stuff away, made a nice sandwich and tea, then remembered I had a Condie sitting snugly in the ice ring. I go look and...yup. Destroyed.

Hmm.

My right-hand panel only says "Ship lost at", it doesn't give any hint about WHY Invulnerable Warship 3 died, though if it was killed by a player I'd suspect it would say "Ship killed by CMDR...."

Is there any way to check how my ship went foom?

Check your event log C:\Users\%userprofile%\Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous

Don't think it is possible if you have a PS4 or Xbox

If it didnt say "Killied by X" then you probably ran out of fuel.
You should probably have
a) parked inside your last exploded roid, you would be so cold a Pirate would not have detected you
b) turned off everthing except life support, would would be colder and your fuel last longer
c) used a shopping list.

Ah excellent, thanks - I didn't know that was there.
Opinion is unanimous that I likely ran out of fuel; I'm fairly certain of that too, I'd intended to scoop on my way out and was down to about a third.
Learning opportunity lol - now I know where to find the event log. :D

I thought you had shut down non-essentials? Fuel burn plummets, you'll have hours, even with an empty main tank.

Yes. Like I said, it's the best guess at this moment.
Looking for the log; I'll see what it says.
Edit: Hmm - I don't have that file - that path doesn't work. This is a Steam game; it may have a different path. Looking.
Re-edit...yes it does; just a different icon. And if I'm reading this right, I did indeed run out of fuel.

You could have been parked next to a slow rotating asteroid. Unfortunately, the log doesn't show weird deaths. I once landed near some geysers, took me a while to figure out I had actually landed on an inactive geyser, it must have activated whilst I was away, cooked my Krait MKII and sent it to the rebuy screen.

Edit - Lava spouts, not geysers :)

A) I usually do, but this time worried what might happen if a player looked into the cloud. My bad.
B) I did that - although must have missed a few systems.
C) Real men shop using the Force. :D

None of the above quote is good advice, well, maybe making a shopping list is. The other suggested actions are only poor choices that stem from a fatal mistake: Not exiting to the main menu.

The only good advice when going AFK is: "If going AFK in Elite Dangerous, always Exit to Main Menu."

Clearly, the problem here is that you need a better standard of tea. Find a proper specialist tea supplier. That way, you'll have the rebuy screen and a nicer cup of tea to go with it.

Definitely agree with what others say about being afk.

Thing is, at the time when the small child was occasionally firing phasing rounds through the nappy and clean up was significantly reduced by getting there quickly, I think there's definitely times where I'd not have been too bothered by a rebuy.

Then I have to consider that tea is a religion for some people I've met. Bad form not remembering it first time round OP. ;)

Since VO mining only requires 2 Hardpoints, I have to wonder why you're worried about NPC pirates in an Anaconda? Just exit to main menu and waste the pirate upon return.

Red Rose is good tea, no doubt, and was once my go to everyday tea, but have you tried tetleys british blend?
About the same cost and imo a better cup.
If you are in the UK i suppose it would just be called tetleys, the type that comes in a round bag with no string.

I’ve fallen asleep whilst playing, woken up cause the PS4 controllers vibrating and it’s already to late to save myself.... Rebuy

I’ve also nipped somewhere in reality for a couple of minutes or so and survived, but never gone away for an extended period.
