The 'Lawn mower man' effect...

Hi fellow 'HMD'ers :)

With ED it think were catching glimpses of the power and future of 'VR'. Without getting melodramatic its a historical time and privelige to experience the start of a very big deal..

I think theres likely to be significant 'emergent' properties to come from the interaction of human physiology/intelligence and computed virtual environments.. One possible outcome could be a more efficient language, visual language aka Terrence McKenna's postulating on the subject.. (look up Terrence McKenna on Youtube)

I have noticed some strange effects in my own everyday visual experience from prolonged sessions in ED 0.5 Hr+, which seems a training of the brain (rift legs) to the new input.. after session move your head sideways while trainig on a fixed point.. Hopefully reality wont start Stutt........ (dont say it) :)

As the late McKenna said "the world can be what you say it is!", in VR you can make it what you want.. (so why are we stuck at 400 m/s ((in space)))

Be good.. SLeeC

Yes, you can get weird visual goings-on after using the DK2 for extended periods, some people more than others.

It wasn't so bad for me, but my friend had persistant "screen door effect" for a few hours after use apparently.

Unfortunately, with a reinstall of Windows 10, my DK2 no longer works at all :(

As a small aside, a small town nearby has installed "energy saving streetlights" - LED's that I think switch on and off at some ridiculously low rate. When you are driving past them, persistence of vision means you still see the light where it "used" to be as well as where it "is". There have been crashes every single day :(

Wow VR streetlights! "experience reality at a new refresh rate!" :)

I can second your friends experience of changed visuals, it seems to introduce an almost impercetible 'noise' to your vision but not in a way which is irreversible just temporary like burned-in pixels (cones) :))
Age would have an effect to.. (how much booze you've drunk)
