The Little Things

Was coming in for a landing last night at my home base, an Alliance orbital. As I descended towards the pad, I looked ahead and saw six narrow beam searchlights come together to form the Alliance logo.

This is why I play Elite. The attention to detail for the little things that really don't matter. The swirling black background behind messages and alerts on the hud to make them legible in bright light environments. The subtle differences in sounds my ship makes when damaged. The clouds of fine dust thrown up by my ship when landing on a moon. It shows the level of attention the devs put into everything they do and when encountered, well, it just makes me smile.

That's all. We now return to our regularly scheduled series of moaning, chest beating and baseless demands from the unwashed masses.

No, I refuse to go back to moaning.

Instead I'll tell you about the strange little sound you can hear when you refuel.
Next time, with sound settings in nite-mode and you refuel at the nearest star.
Try to stay there around 80-90% heat - as you slowly head up & out, moving away from the star; Listen to the sound that sounds like a alien saucer when you fly away and you cool off.

Super-cool :D

This could be a great post with others adding to the little things:

Owning a large ship stored but flying a small one landing at the home base. The player will always get assigned a large pad in case they want to fly out with the large one.

One thing that is kind of disturbing is the sound the refinery (or limpet?) makes sometimes while mining - sounds like some evil villain laughing in the background (spooky).

PS. seeing a Sidey sitting on a large pad is kind of awesome - the scale of things.

Find a supergiant and refuel, same sound effect, goes on for ages, love it.

I know what you mean, those little details really make the difference!

Stonger together!

Fixed in 2.3

Thanks Obama, er I mean Frontier:

The creaking and groaning of the superstructure when in Glide Mode.
The different alarm noises when your ship overheats, I'm pretty sure when of them is from a smoke alarm I used to own!
The way the landing gears all deploy have different little quirks.

Are you sure about that? I keep all my ships in one port but no matter what I'm flying I always get the pad that suits it. You only get assigned a larger pad if there are no smaller ones available.

The Alliance has a logo? They actually managed to get their act together enough to agree on a logo? Well, I'll be darned...! :D

I recently discovered the little arrows that point to where the entrance is on Coriolis-type stations. Very helpful when running the slightly less legal goods, and general orientation for approaching those types of starports.

Yup, very much agreed. My eye catches something of exquisite detail almost each and every time I arrive at a port. The lighting shades at a window, kinda drawing you to wonder if anyone is working at that office tonight...In those extraction ports, the detailed imagery in those corridors. Frankly I'm mesmerized and drawn out of my ship every time.

Its these details that brings one to expect that, this attention to detail will at some point insert themselves in the other core aspects such as missions etc...
