The 'Living Manual': two suggestions! ePub edition? More Lore?

Hi all,

Suggestion #1: would it be possible to have a version of the ED manual in Epub or Kindle format?

I just started playing Elite Dangerous on my Xbox over Easter, and got utterly hooked on it. I'm a bit geeky though, and love reading manuals. The bigger and thicker and more detailed the better [smile]

One of my peeves (and this applies to pretty much every software/games company, e.g. Ableton, Square Enix etc.) is the insistence on using PDF files for manuals and docs.

PDFs are great for print, but pretty terrible for reading on electronic devices. The text flow doesn't adapt to the display width, and worse, when each PDF page is actually two pages, you often have to move the page around to read it. You can put it on a Kindle, but the Kindle won't scale the text.

Frontier have done a Very Good Thing by providing active links in the PDF though, and it does look nice. I like the embedded videos too. Brilliant :) I'd really love a glossy, printed version sitting on my coffee table as the designers have done a lovely job of it...

I do appreciate though that given the continual development of the game means that printed docs would go out of date pretty quick, so I'd respectfully suggest embracing more dynamic formats designed for electronic devices such as tablets, perhaps even HTML.

Heck, if it's in HTML it could be wrapped in an Android/Apple/Windows 10 app and automatically update when online.

Suggestion #2: More Lore...

After playing for a while I started finding out about the Lore of Elite. I love the way Frontier haven't clobbered us over the head with it: you can pootle about and shoot stuff and completely ignore it if you wish, or you can start digging around and get stuck in with Powerplays. I understand Drew Wagar is compiling the Lore into one place as it grows.

I'd love to see this in a conveniently readable, and updatable form as well, so my second suggestion would be an official Lore handbook...

I guess my blue-sky (black-space?) dream would be for a companion app that combines user manual/lore info/GalNet feeds/Encyclopedia of Tech all in one place for convenient bedtime reading on a tablet. Been raking through the Wikia app on Android, but it's not quite the same...

Tempted to have a crack at it myself as a personal project. I've done some simple app development before involving XML/Json feeds, so do appreciate that it would take a fair bit of work and is unlikely to be a priority for Frontier Developments atm, but I think it would be a real nice-to-have. :)
