The logistics of running a park

I was thinking about this earlier and what was said in the JP book while the guests were all in the control. Ray Arnold mentioned that the animals food had to be shipped to the island. So it must have been a special kind of food. Obviously the herbivores would eat a lot. So keeping them fed by shipping food to the island must have been a lot of work, especially for the parks staff and computer system.

I was also thinking about the carnivores. They feed them cows and goats, this was done in the books, movies and in JPOG. Well the cows and goats are living animals and need to be fed as well. This is just even more of a logistics issue for the staff and the computer system. Not only do you have to keep the food supply for the herbivores and carnivores well stocked but you also need to keep the food for the carnivores well supplied as well.

The point is I would like to see this reflected in the game. Of course it will have to be done in a way that doesn't kill the fun of the game with too much focus on minor details that will drag the game down and make it boring. I wouldn't want to play a spread sheet simulator. But it would be interesting to have players tackle this issue. Maybe in certain mode, like a realistic mode will these problems exist.

Would anyone else be interested in this? lol :)

It sounds interesting, but JPOG every feeding you've done, hab to be paid. So the Logistics and the other stuff was hidden but it was realised.

Everything more would be a spread sheet simulator.

So you're talking about breeding the cows and goats for yourself rather than buying them in? I'm pretty sure this is going beyond scope of the game but in it's way, I think it could be interesting, maybe a game expansion later?

The way I see it, why stop at cows and goats? The park could be using it's cloning expertise to produce rhino's and leopards (CITES endangered species) that it could then export to zoos around the world, to suppliment both park income and park reputation as a scientific research centre. Obviously rhinos and leopards fed to the carnivores might keep aggression levels down in the same way as in JPOG, cows and goats do not satisfy the dino's instinct to hunt. A leopard would provide a significant hunt for raptors, a rhino fights back, gives raptors the hump but might suit a T-Rex (which a leopard would annoy).

Although rhino's and leopards are obviously exotic species on earth maybe they are, less exotic than the dino's themselves and provide both a hunting challenge (plus one heck of a spectacle for visitors, hated by purists) that's nonetheless cheaper to the park than feeding the carnivores with herbivore dinosaurs (perhaps DNA is more complete) and more effective security wise than feeding them cows. So it's a halfway point between the fully artificial and a more natural diet. There might be no need for any change to security fencing, leave the grass to provide rabbits for the leopards to eat, just an expansion of a specialised hatchery (and mind the rabbits don't undermine your fences!).

As I say, I'm sure it's WAY beyond JWE scope at release but - while morally pretty questionable (should you go for providing komodo dragon friends and crocodile enemies) I could see park management fun in it, for sure. +1

I am not talking about breeding the cows and goats. Just having them shipped to the island. Of course they would get them in herds I imagine, depending on how often the dinosaurs need to be fed. Obviously the cows and goats would need to be fed as well. Though breeding them at the park would get rid of the expense and trouble of having them shipped to the island. Though breeding the animals to feed to the dinosaurs would bring it's own challenges.

But then it just becomes even more a spread sheet simulator.
