Tbh, for being the flagship animal of Planet Zoo, I think that the mane of the game's West African lion needs some work.
It looks far too stylized with a mane structure very similar to either Mufasa or ones you see as statues at libraries

Now I get it, fur is hell for any game designer

BUT

I think I have found what can be considered a mane that really does the king of beasts justice.

I mean some things would have to be changed to keep things consistent with the PZ tone, but if Frontier is aiming for the most realistic animals in any game, they should 120% take a look at these AC cats.

I don't recall reading any promotional material for Planet Zoo that said they were "aiming for the most realistic animals in any game". Every game has their own style and Planet Zoo does too. I am just so grateful for all the content and all the animals we will be getting in the game. I have already asked my boss for Nov 5th and 6th off from work so I can dive into the game when it is released (and I will be enjoying the beta too!). It's okay to offer suggestions and criticisms to Frontier. And I am sure they take many into consideration. I look forward to the full release of the game in November to really get a feel for how everything looks and works.

They said that this game was going to have the most realistic animals, but I think they meant it as behavior wise.

This "most realistic animals" will go nuts for some people.

If they redo the lion a bit fine, if they don't I'm completely good with that. Since we are shown the only alfa so far there could be a good chance that some animals get improvement. And "the most realistic animals" don't have to do only with looks, there are behaviour and animations.

I agree. I love all the animals, and even though they're stylized, they all look super great... But the first time I saw the male lion, the mane stuck out as out of place to me. It's the only animal that really bothers me. Honestly reminds me a lot of ZT2 lion manes. It looks sculpted more than anything, I wonder if they tried the fur shader and it just didn't look good so they went this route instead.
