Newcomer / Intro The Market

I'm a little confused about the Market.

This concerns Starports which trade in Commodities, as well as Ships(Shipyards), Munitions, Utilities and everything else.

Is there a "Regional" Market, which allows me to at least see where something is being sold, without having to travel to each System to see what they're selling and buying?

E.g. I'm looking for Computer Components in order to be able to fulfill a Bulletin Post I'm interested in fulfilling, but neither the Station nor System I'm located in sells them. And I don't have the uhh... surplus of time to visit every known System looking for them.

Not exactly sure of the order, but if you go to your Galaxy map, you can filter commodities there. See traderoutes between them and such.

The map allows you to get the information up to an extent. You will be shown the trade routes for the systems that you visited. It is not exactly reliable. Computer components, if I remember correctly, should be in any high tech system, which you can filter for in a map.

If you want an "I win" button, use this elitetradingtool.co.uk

Nothing wrong with using one of the 3rd party tools. I use Slopeys

I didn't say it was wrong, I said it is an "I win" button for these particular missions. You can either use an online tool to find a particular commodity or you can find it yourself. The choice is yours.

I finde that Slopey's tool is very useful. It provides a way to see which systems have a specific commodity and also shows how far away it is. So, I enter the commodity and sort by distance to find the closest location.

Computer components are produced in industrial systems - yellow on the galmap.

In any commodities market, you can look at the information about each commodity in a small pane on the top right. It always tells you what kind of economy produces which commodity.

The only inconsistency you'll find is that not all systems marked as extraction produce all minerals, and not all refinery economies produce all metals. Other than that, agricultural systems seem to always have fish and beer, for example.

I disagree.

Can you imagine the kinds of names we'd call someone who came forth on the forum and said they use 3rd party tools for combat?

FD understand that they can't do anything about them so they tolerate Slopey's, for example, but they're really a bit sploity, in my opinion - they definitely tread an ethical tightrope.

I prefer to use my noggin and work out my own routes. I've done pretty Well and learned a boatload about how the simulation works. I don't think I would have learned that if I'd used Thrudd's or any of the others.

That seems like a fair point, but is there any room for possibly making it a little... simpler to find the things you want to buy or sell, at least within a supposed Galactic Region or cluster of Systems?

You'd still have to fly to whatever Station is buying or selling to actually pick up or drop off the items, but if there were some sort of regional market mechanic I wonder how many people would mind.

I come from EVE Online, where it's a little easier to find what you're looking for :p

I don't seem to have the issues with the trade routes on the galaxy map that others have. If I purchase trade data for a system, I never run into a situation where the individual commodities aren't there, despite what the trade routes say.

That's not to say it doesn't happen; it's just never happened to me that I can recall.

You can filter trade routes in a very granular fashion - right down to individual minerals. You might be wary about spending 100cr when you're just starting out, but it's money well spent, in my experience. Also, pay attention to the direction of flow!

You can also look at the description of the stations in the system view. The left pane tells you three imported and three exported commodities, although I can't vouch for its accuracy as I've never used it for locating goods.
