On the back of the news that Neo-Marlinist leader Landgrave Delacroix’s accusation of Hadrian Duval as the true leader of the Neo-Marlinist movement was determined “inconclusive,” the House of Patrons in the Marlinist Colony of Hyades Sector RO-P b6-2 approved newly elected Governor Herbert Poole’s proposed Neo-Marlinist security measures.
Due to the on-going presence of the Neo-Marlinist Order of Mudhrid in the system, Governor Poole proposed increased safety protocols in the system.
The Secure A Free Marlinist Future Act received 76 votes in favor to only 24 against after a day of heated debate. The Act not only lays out heightened security measures in the system but also puts pressure on First Minister Fairfax and the Marlinist Constabulary to bring the now month-long asylum process for the Neo-Marlinist Order of Mudhrid citizens to an end.
Some key provisions include:
1. The Neo-Marlinists must hand over control of the Steel Majesty Megaship to the Dark Wolf Marlinists or the Marlinist Constabulary.
2. All asylum seekers must stay aboard the Steel Majesty until such time as their asylum application is approved. Any Neo-Marlinists seen, either in ships or on foot, outside the Steel Majesty will be arrested as enemy combatants.
3. Creates a Marlinist Militia to be overseen by the Dark Wolf Marlinists.
4. Contains an official condemnation of Neo-Marlinism calling it "incompatible with the principles of freedom and liberty at the core of Marlinism." Calls on the Marlinist central government to put a deadline on asylum applications at 72 Earth hours from the implementation of these new security protocols.
Opponents to the new protocols were mainly from the remaining members of the Marlinism Reformation Party, who saw many of their colleagues voted out of office in snap elections caused by a citizenry upset with the granting of asylum to people who most see as members of a terrorist organization. Reformist member Ivory McLean argued from the House floor that “Neo-Marlinists are our cousins and were just desperate for change. They cannot be blamed for taken up the fight against the Empire which has done nothing but oppress us. They should be welcomed with open arms instead of treated with these draconian measures that are an insult to freedom of choice.”
Governor Poole stated during a signing ceremony earlier today that these actions, “A necessary step towards securing the safety and future of our colonies from the threat these terrorists pose. We, like Marlin Duval so many years ago, seek to live in peace and to build a new democratic republic society. These Neo-Marlinist thugs like Landgrave Delacroix are an insult to Marlin Duval’s legacy. They grasp for nothing but naked power and don’t care how many innocent people they murder in pursuit of it. If the people from Muhdrid that supposedly had nothing to do with the terrorist attacks wish to join us, then they must renounce Neo-Marlinism, submit themselves to vetting, and do it immediately.” The Governor has already requested the Dark Wolf Marlinist’s new Marlin Militia to form a blockade of the Steel Majesty and to patrol the system when the Neo-Marlinist protocols go into effect on 5/25/3307 at 22:00 UTC.
