A standing room only crowd of Free Marlinist supporters gathered at the Hartog Settlement amphitheater in Hyades Sector SU-C 14a-1 tonight.
The raucous crowd, at least by Marlinist standards, was very much opposed to the idea of swearing allegiance to the Emperor. Many attendees wore pins emblazoned with “9/30/06” as a reminder of the day the Imperial Navy was deployed against them in their former Imperial homes.
In true Marlinist diplomatic fashion, the speakers made sure to show gratitude that the Emperor was finally recognizing that Marlinists are not murderous revolutionaries and some even spoke favorably about creating strong economic ties with the Empire. However when the topic turned to the idea of becoming an Imperial vassal state, they were vehemently opposed.
“While we share blood with our Imperial cousins, our spirits diverge,” Hyades Sector SU-C 14a-1 Governor Eldridge Woodard declared. “The Marlinist spirit cries out for freedom and for the first time in a millennium we have tasted it. Like a caged bird who has finally felt the air beneath its wings, we cannot go back. We will not go back.”
The speakers did not limit themselves to just opposing the Emperor’s proposal but also cast a vision on how to move forward forming a true Marlinist Republic. Ideas that received the largest applause were terraforming worlds for habitats and agriculture and building larger starports to accommodate the steady influx of immigrants.
Similar rallies are planned in all eight of the Marlinist Colonies while Parliament is set to begin debating the proposal in the morning.
