The Mechanics of Ramming

flying with better bulkheads also helps a lot with ramming. I didn't die once from collision since I upgraded my Eagle's bulkhead to Reinforced, along with C3 shields, and yes : I use this technique if I fight against a bigger ship which is just about to give me the friendshift finger while very low on hull. Desperate times require desperate actions ...

I'd like to keep ramming in the game. "Ramming speed!" is a well-known trope of the spaceship sci-fi genre, and I think we should keep it as a "last resort" move.

I'd tweak it just a little though, in that having active shields on the ramming target should mitigate most, if not all the damage. I'd also change up the bulkheads, so any upgrade from "lightweight alloy" makes your ship much more difficult to kill with a successful ram.

Basically, shields still up, ramming is useless. Once those shields go down though, damn the torpedos!

The acutal ramming is fine by me.

I am not sure if shields and armor should actually mitigate the impact damage so much as they do currently, especially against targets of similiar mass or higher; you still have all that mass inside your ship coming to a halt from +100m/s. That kinetic energy has to go somewhere.

it goes inside the other ship ;)

Just had a player Asp "ram" me. On my screen there was no contact, no shield damage, no nothing. He went from (no shields) 100% hull to 0% hull just as he passed close over me. I think on his PC he rammed me, on my PC he did not. There is clearly a latency issue here with P2P.

He had 76t of palladium on board. I did not want to kill him, though he did shoot me straight up coming out of the interdiction. I was just prepping the limpets...
