The Mikunn'iverse

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

T
he Mikunn'iverse

The Mikunn'iverse is an un-official lore series developed by the players. When I first picked up the game within two days I had hit the edge of colonized space in my Adder and fell in love with the most underdog of all systems - Mikunn. I started writing lore for it and a player group ended up forming around the result. The purpose here is to make it easily understandable for new players to my group and outsiders alike... and integrate our lore with the lore of friendly player groups. My hope is that you will adopt a system in the area and integrate yourself with the story so that we can bring the galaxy to life. YOU have the opportunity here to write some of our lore.

Please note many of these are not my creation, I will be inviting many from these forums to participate and add their stories. Indeed, many already have, including groups who are responsible for their own lore. I simply organize those and make sure the pieces fit; however, I do maintain the right to reject content, especially if it conflicts with existing lore, though this should be rare. This is the lore series for the players in my group (Mercs of Mikunn) to follow, I will do my best to include yours, but ultimately I am catering to those following the story.

Let's have some fun!

The Factions
(Ordered by arrival to Mikunn'iverse Lore)

Mikunn:

The Dukes of Mikunn:

Hailing from Mikunn, a system with only 1196 inhabitants, the two brothers Tiberius and Caius, quickly took economic control of their star cluster from the local corporate group known as Dynamic Commodities by monopolizing the extraction market. Since then, they have continued to build up a sphere of influence in their region through investment and acquisition, leveraging these assets against local leaders to build a minor empire of independent worlds in a feudalistic manner earning them the nickname "The Dukes of Mikunn". The worlds governed by Mikunn have similarities in culture to the Empire, which isnt unexpected since that is where the two leaders were born. Moreover, despite being classified as feudal, the Dukes' emphasize the working man while simultaneously curtailing the use of slavery, creating a strong middle class.

The older brother Tiberius is an ex-soldier of the empire where his younger brother Caius is a scholar and businessman. A populist and staunch supporter of the people, Tiberius tends to ride roughshod through political convention whereas Caius's approach tends to be silkshod - at least on the surface. The two brothers operate two sub factions independent from one another - the Mercs of Mikunn and the Guild of Sefrys. Of these factions, only the Dukes of Mikunn and the Mercs of Mikunn are under the protection of the Border Coalition treaty which will be mentioned later.

The Mercs of Mikunn

The Mercs of Mikunn are composed of many ex-veterans, especially Imperials who flocked to Tiberius' cause. Instead of a standing army, the domain around Mikunn is largely protected by independent bands of soldiers for hire who are given assignments at local mercenary hubs. Some of these hubs can get absurdly large as businesses flock to the area to make money off of the recently paid mercs. The mega military complex "Mercenary's Respite" is one such example. Tiberius largely dominates the direction of these pilots for hire through the mercenary hubs and bounty boards.

The Guild of Sefrys

In addition to running Mikunn's mining operation and the family business, Caius also operates a group of smugglers on the side, independent from the main organization. While maintaining the upstanding nature that the family business holds within the communities it enters, the organization he runs secretly is quite the opposite. A disdain for local laws, with some very unscrupulous members, the Guild of Sefrys operates on the edges of the Dukes realm, often weakening existing regimes to make it easier for the Dukes to gain a foothold. The Guild saw major growth after Operation Freedom, where a prison colony in Harpetet was raided releasing thousands of political prisoners of nearby worlds.

The Void Rogues:

The Dark Armada:

Every good story needs a villain, and the Dark Armada were happy to oblige. Almost as old as the Mercs, the Dark Armada was formed in response to the Dukes, and were initially hired by the corporate group Dynamic Commodities to curb the Dukes growth in HR 7327. Nevertheless it was clear they were always imperial pilots. It wasn't until much later that the Dark Armada faction appeared in Checha, 70 LY from Mikunn. It was around this time that the Dukes were able to force a ceasefire with the Dark Armada after the location of the Armada's faction was discovered.

Some say the Dark Armada was sent by the vengeful senator who caused Tiberius and Caius to flee their Imperial home. Regardless, the Armada has proven to be an worthy adversary. Many encounters with Mysteron have been recorded in The Black Hole in the Wall, a bar frequented by Mysteron himself. Mysteron considers himself the master of deception, and has continually tried to spark a war with the empire by claiming he was sent by the emperor Arissa Lavigny-Duval. Despite as the Dukes realm has grown, relations with the Empire as a whole have increased... except with the aforementioned senator.

Communism Interstellar:

Communism Interstellar:

Communism Interstellar is an independent player group within the Mik'unniverse that has the goal of protecting and expanding all communist factions within the empire. Two of their factions "Communism Interstellar" and "The Workers of Manite Labour Union" fall under the protection of the Border Coalition treaty. The early treaty of mutual defense signed between Communism Interstellar and the Dukes was a precursor to what would eventually become the Border Coalition.

Sacra Oculus:

Sacra Oculus

Sacra Oculus is another independent player group which has integrated itself into the Mik'unniverse. While their holy land is far away, followers of the religion are relatively common in the Mik'unniverse and trade routes with rare goods.

The Sacred Eye (Sacra Oculus) is an Order dedicated to the Creator. In 3155 Thadeus Ezekiel MacNeil undertook a perilous mission on behalf of what was then known as the Disciples of the Saviour, to seek out proof that the Creator existed. He found this in the Brown Dwarf located at HIP 29314 which had created debris forming a ringed orbit. To him and also the followers of what the Mars Tribune called a Cult, the beauty of the Brown Dwarf and the accompanying asteroids was proof of the Creator's existence and that from certain viewpoints, the celestial body represented an eye. Thus the Order of The Sacred Eye was born.

After a series of activities which resulted in the bombing of the Luna sub surface rail line in 3158, The Sacred Eye was declared a terrorist organisation. A series of high profile arrests followed with members (known as Priests) of the Order being driven underground. By 3180 their existence had ceased in Federation juristiction and their mantra of fighting against tyranny and corporations because they were an unpardonable sin to the Creator ceased, or that is what was first thought. Explorers charting the Synuefe series of stars encountered a planetary base in Synuefe BT-F D12-54 in 3288, where contact was made with the occupants of a small outpost. This outpost (Daniel's Folly) grew in the intervening years and today stands at around 118,000 with a range of products available for sale. It is here that the warrior Priests train for the Coming of the Creator and the Judgement of Humanity, when all wickedness shall be called to account.

To better present themselves as worthy to the Creator, the Priests have undertaken a vow to aid explorers wishing to find enlightenment and to conduct a watchful protection of the Brown Dwarf in HIP 29314, given its religious connotation. This has been made of greater importance following discovery of precious metals which the Priests of The Sacred Eye have called the Creator's Gifts. As a Theology, slavery of all forms is strictly prohibited so no Imperial Slaves or Slaves permitted. In addition because they encourage the population to reflect on the imminence of the End of Days and the Judgement of Humanity, consumer technology is strictly prohibited, so as to encourage people to think of their spiritual needs and not ignore the momentous events unfolding in our galaxy. The Winged Hussars:

The Winged Hussars

The Winged Hussars is a cooperative group of loosely connected pilots, all hailing from different parts of the Galaxy and flying under different banners. Their roots dig deep into the history, almost 1800 years back - to the tradition of heavy armoured assault units fielded in the pre-space era by Earth's ancient nation of Poland. Pilots joining this faction declare that they want to capture the spirit of all-out bravery and unparalleled courage and efficiency of these ancient warriors from the times long gone. The Winged Hussars' base of operation is Maskelyne Vision Coriolis Orbital Starport in HR 8444 system.

How to Add Content

Below is a list of systems. Eventually each system listed should link to its overview - a full biography of the planets, station, inhabitants and history. This is where you come in. I will be doing some myself to provide a format, but there is far more than I can possibly do myself. Feel free to adopt a system on the list, or one in the nearby area that you like that is not on the list. I look forward to learning about the various outer colonists in my local area! Let me know which one you choose and I can let you know any past history we are aware of for the system chosen.

Posting to watch. Always happy to see more lore, especially with all of these groups interacting! Might I suggest the Interstellar Communist Union get a lore write-up as well, seeing as they and Communism Interstellar are both descendants of the same parent organization and continue to closely collaborate?

I have had very little contact with ICU - but I am not opposed to more. Keep in mind this is the primer essentially for my player group, and I have offered ICU to get involved, they haven't.... yet. ;)

Maybe one day! I keep hoping. :)

Mikunn

Colonized in 3297, Mikunn's first structure was the orbital mining station now known as Spassky's Inheritance by an imperial citizen of the same name. Originally off the books, it officially became an independent colony after Spassky's assassination when his two sons, Tiberius and Caius took control over the mining operation. While the system is still as modest in infrastructure as it has ever been, Mikunn has become a local hub of political influence in the sector as the influence of the owners has grown in the surrounding region. The Dukes of Mikunn make it a point to reside here despite the existence of more opulent places in what is now their domain. Strictly an extraction system, the belts of Mikunn contain gold, which the Dukes used as a launching point for their political and business aspirations.

Mikunn 1:

All human structures in Mikunn are associated with its first planet. It has two surface structures and one orbital outpost. No landing pads are present at any of the surface structures though the nearby terrain is relatively flat. As a result the outpost Spassky's inheritence contains the only pads in the entire system. Between the surface structures and the orbital outpost it contains Mikunn's entire population - 1196 inhabitants.

Spassky's Inheritance

Shortly after construction completed in 3299, the original owner of the outpost, Spassky, was murdered by his Imperial patron. As his other assets were being seized, Spassky's sons fled to the outpost, renamed it after their father, and began to rebuild his mining company in the local cluster. Spassky's Inheritance directly pulls its resources from the major metallic asteroid reserves orbiting the main star. Planetary resources are also brought here from Fuch's Folly.

Fuchs' Folly

Fuch's Folly is a security installation on the surface of Mikunn. All minerals extracted by the local penal colony pass through here before leaving the planet.

Kent Penal Colony

Like the residents aboard Spassky's, most of those at Kent Penal Colony are imperial - war criminals captured from destroyed vessels of the Dark Armada during their offensive operations in territory controlled by the Dukes. No surface to orbit vessels reside here, and all minerals extracted by the inhabitants pass through the security installation at Fuch's Folly before leaving the planet.
