PvP The moment before the seeker missile hit the torpedo

there are not many threats for a big class ship.
the strong shields are able to tank even the fire from multible wing

however some weapons are able to destroy the shield generator while shield protection is established
one of the most dangerous attacks are torpedos
one successful volley of a midclass ship is able to drop the shields of a battle cruiser totally
here is a very effective way to deal with this

first bring some distance between you and torpedo
torpedos have one weak point they are really slow and need 2.5 seconds to get activated
one boost will do the job. use the boost also for a following fa off flip.
now we are drifting backwards with good speed.
use your highest threat button to lock the torpedo

as counter for torpedos we mounted seeker missiles.
let the seeker missile do their work after the target lock. in this moment a target lock breaker hit is not nice cause you will have to retarget the torpedo and the seekers need another lock.
control the distance to the approaching torpedo and fire the seeker missile.
job done. even if multible torpedos are fired at you one seeker missile will destroy the whole torpedo volley cause of the detonation radius

I use railguns ans ECMs to shoot them down. Saves me the faoff reverse and allows me to lead torps into the guy who fired them.
For bombing though I use mines, seeker these down and we'll chat :p

hehe @crimson
nice thought on the rail. will test this out. should be more easy to take down as slf with the rails.

mines have a easy answer PDF - point defence

Interesting...looks like seekers not working on torpedoes was a long time bug that has been fixed (or possibly the other way around, but I do hope it's the former).

Post torpedo integrity buff, but prior to 2.3 or so, seekers were far and away the best torpedo counter. Then they did something that made torpedoes invulnerable to them.

A test I ran in 3.2.1 to illustrate this:

From you video, it certainly seems like they're working again.

Interesting, but the video shows you shooting down a seeker missile.

You can tell it's a torpedo by it's low speed and the slight corkscrew wobble that seekers don't have.

Nicey nicey lad, but with medium ships (FDL/Mamba/Chieftan((Yes surprisingly people still try torp the latter)) you can often lead the opponent and his torps on a collision course and insta nerf thier genny instead of yours...

Im pretty sure it could be done in a vettie aswell.

so that the fish is coming back. [yesnod]

nice thought on that. if the torps are fired from a big ship then yeah i will give that a try next time :D

Do it, i've pulled it off a few times and it is utterly hilarious. If you've hit them enough for them to pop a few SCB's and you have powerful heat weapons theres good odds thier FSD goes a similar time to thier genny, or at the very least malfunctions, then you've a quick and easy kill on the powerplant.
