IF it really happens, the only thing i will positively remember a certain oddly haired world leader for is when we get a permanent moon base.

Mars is wonderfully inspirational (and that is important), and probably aspirational for a while longer (it IS so far away), but we can make humanity 'multi-planet' via the Moon, and build up a proper working plan for our required evolution into interplanetary habitation.

The Moon is a realistic literal 'first step' for all mankind on that journey imho.
