I was once ganked 3 times in 15 mins attempting to make my way to a distant HazRES at a CG.

That’s actually pretty good. If you don’t have an INARA profile - you’re kinda nobody.
INARA takes a slice through the whole ED community, so anything that is actually a hotspot will show up.

I try to run the game with EDMC running in the background when I'm doing missions or CGs but, even then, I sometimes forget and stuff also happens when I'm not doing things where I ever intended to have EDMC running too.

There's been times, during a trade CG, when I've arrived at a station which stocks the stuff required for the CG and EDDB will still say the last time the data for that station was last updated 47 days ago, or whatever.
Even with several thousand CMDRs CGing, and many of them using the same station for supplies, obviously none of them are running EDMC (some quite deliberately, no doubt).

I dunno if INARA think it'd make their stat's look silly if they displayed some kind of "based on X reports" data but they really need to do that if they expect the stat's they do publish to have any credibility.

If INARA has only received, say, 40 updates in the last hour, they should display that information as well.

I always make sure EDMC is running when I get murdered. Also, I check a lot of CMDRs throughout the day as I encounter them and its my experience most of them are NOT in inara. When someone's name comes up blank in Inara I assume he's up to no good. Yes I know that makes me biased/paranoid.

The data isn't perfect but in my experience I've found it extremely useful. Lots of people use Inara, third party tools, and love running those things all the time to capture statistics (we're vain creatures, after all).

Bottom line is this: if you're downplaying it's usefulness you're missing out!

Kudos to the inara team, but this is really something that needs to be added to the game - I'd like to find out if a particular system is safe from galnet inside my ship, not a fan site after alt-tabbing out. Information like that should ideally also feed into the BGS.

1) Not all players are registered with Inara.
2) Not all players registered with Inara allow data to be shared with Inara.
3) If you've been murdered once, twice, three times etc. how long does it take to figure out not to go to those places in Open?

If you're arguing it's "safe" to be in Open based on Inara stats, I'm afraid you've lost the PR war my friend. This game has a reputation as a gankfest, deserved or not. Livestreams with Will getting murdered over and over prove the perception point.

Why complain? You waged an effective war and won. It's over.

No one here is arguing it’s safe in Open. This is helpful tool to help keep yourself safe in Open.
