The most geographically distant CMDR you've encountered in open?

TLDR: How far away from your geographical location was the most distant CMDR you've encountered in the game so far?

I was just wondering - there has been a dev post stating that the game is trying to instance CMDRs who are geographically close to each other, which makes sense given the P2P nature of the games multiplayer.

So I was wondering if we're even grouped with CMDRs from different continents or if they're on different servers anyway.

I understand that a P2P connection between me (central EU) and e.g. an Australian CMDR may result in a prohibitively high ping and packet loss. However one of the aspects of online gaming I enjoy the most is the international aspect and I generally avoid groups based on my own nationality or language because of that.

Anyway - I'm not that chatty in open, so the only CMDR I've met and whose location I know was a Scot, who should be ~1500 km from my location.

Me, USA, TX. Other commander, AUS, Melbourne. Didn't need to do anything special. Was watching his twitch stream(MercenaryThorrn) and decided to jump into his system since it was close. Saw him in SC, he went to combat zone, so I followed, saw him just fine in CZ no lag or anything strange.

I think Texas to Melbourne is about as far as you can go geographically. Maybe someone in China or some country with a roundabout interconnect would be technically "farther" but not geographically. Then again, I can't image the hops it takes to go from here to AUS, probably a lot of IXP in between, etc.

EDIT: Google maps(using the ruler) says. "Total distance: 8,868.29 mi (14,272.13 km)"

I'm in California, and regularly play along with an Aussie. Also play with a Texan, which is politically very distant from California.

I'm in Australia and I've conversed with commanders from France and Germany this week. I think they relaxed the ping requirements recently because I'm seeing a lot more commanders now, even if they are a bit jittery.
