The new definition of visual ship customisation : Two different ships

As David said here :
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=151252&page=2&p=2326671&viewfull=1#post2326671

The Diamondback Scout and the Diamondback Explorer are two different ships (count as 2 in the 30 ships countdown) !

So, as they are the same ship but not exactly the same, it seems that Frontier Developpments has completed this part of the Kickstarter announcement :
"Check out the body-kits and paint jobs on offer, give your ship that personal touch."

Yeah, by "personal touch" it seems they meant "buy two different ships".

Then, we come from that :

To that :

In other circumstances (if they were the same ship), I would like to say : "Great ! That's an awesome ship customisation !"... But the fact is : They are two defferent ships !!!

Bit of a leap there, we could still have body-kits in the future. Especially since if we had 1 body kit per ship currently out, and 1 body kit = 1 new ship, we'd go above the planned 30 ships. His comments seem to suggest the ships are similar base designed but have be altered for different purposes, thus being different ships rather than just a body kit.

One is bigger than the other so thats 2 different ships. Nobody mentioned this as customisation other than you just there.

A great many things were alluded to during the KS and "vision" era.

Sadly many believed in the dream but were lost on the great journey to 1.3 and PP.

Who knows what the future will bring ..

And even if the stats are differents, changing internals makes already different stats.

So, if I can make a Sidewinder bigger with a body-kit in the future, does it will be another ship ? I don't think so. Bigger don't mean different.

I really don't understand WHY ? Why there is two different Diamondback...

There was a great thread on stuff like this back around 1.1. The idea of having the same ship, but with module/hardpoints for different roles, e.g. a Cobra Combateer and Cobra Explorer would be physically similar, but you could do different/better loadouts for the different roles on each.

Anyway, I love this concept, and given the detail level on the ship models/interiors/sounds, it's a great way of getting more ship options for less overall modelling by FD. Can't wait to see what comes in the next upgrade. I'm gonna gamble it'll be ships in the 8MCr to 50MCr bracket. £10 anyone? :)

This reminds me of how car manufacturers do the whole market segmentation thing by making alterations to models. Like the Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, and Escalade EXT.

I think it's basically for reasons of lore. Diamondback was created by a company as an explorer ships, Federations wanted a more combat orientated version so they created the Diamondback Scout. They are 2 separate ships of Similar design, like a Boeing 777 and Boeing 747.

Yeah, have to say it's a bit disappointing to see two ships which look pretty much the same being counted as 2/30.

I mean yes, it is technically a different ship due to the stat change but it does feel a bit of a cheap and lazy way of hitting a target.

Not a massive issue but I do think a bit more effort could have been spent differentiating the two. =/

I think some ships not all need it.
for instance ; the cobra needs variants maybe even a uber expensive high end one
