Here is a mission summary I just got:



Can someone explain what the 'influence' progress bar means. It is not the faction's influence within the system as this is the dominant faction with over 80% influence.

Does it represent my rep with this faction? in that case it look around 10%. 10% towards reaching next level? (what is next level after allied?) or am I 10% towards being allied directly with this faction (as opposed to my general Empire allied status)? does it represent how much I can spoil my rep without losing allied status?

Have devs discussed this at all?

mmm i think that bar may signal the system influence of the faction youre giving the mission for. Representated as a bar so that faction is about 10-15% influence within that system

nope. as I said that faction is the dominant system faction with over 80% influence.

Edit: just to be sure I now checked the system map and this faction has 91.4% influence.

My reading would be the mission reduecd Economic Bust and Civil Unrest, and increased Economic Boom. Long way to go for Economic Boom (which I reckon is the bar). Now if we had a summary of effects in mission description screen - you could make your call!

My alternative reading is long way to go to add 1% to the influence.

I believe there's either a display bug, showing the Influence for the wrong faction, or the Influence is actually going to the wrong faction. That was a known bug before, that was specific to factions that expanded to neighboring systems. Or it's something completely different.

It all still looks pretty arbitrary to me....

My reading would be the mission reduecd Economic Bust and Civil Unrest, and increased Economic Boom. Long way to go for Economic Boom (which I reckon is the bar).

I don't think this is it because this factions had BOOM as one of it's pending states, but after I started doing a bunch of missions for it it has reached the state BOOM CRITICAL.
I will do more missions and see if I can push it to BOOM.

I don't think this is it either. The other factions all have less than 4% and this progress bar is definitely showing way more than that.

Check the local systems for another Empire Consulate. I except you'll find they expanded into another system and are at 9% (what's on the graph, and what expanded factions tend to get stuck on).

If this is the case, you're either getting a bug displaying the Influence in the wrong system, or the Influence is getting sent to the wrong system.
