The no name-and-shame rule!

Gankers should be named and shamed. End of. [Redacted]. There I said it. And I'm talking proper gankers, and griefers, not pirates or opponents in war zones.

Enough with the kid gloves Frontier!

I agree with you. But the problem is it's open to abuse. So... I understand why Frontier went with this rule.

A lot of people confuse PvP with griefing, so someone who's doing something legitimate (within gameplay rules) will get tarred with a brush he didn't deserve. I saw a lot of that in the early days of Alpha 2.

Frontier want this forum to be a nice friendly place, not a hive of scum and villainy, which if some people posted how they please (why are you looking at me like that?) is what it would become.

It's for the best, really.

I'm new so don't know much about the inner workings of the game. Is there a game log file?

If so, they could record when you initiate the joining of a conflict zone and who killed you if not and your location in the game world at time of death.

You could submit this log and names could be added to an offenders database. If the number of infractions exceed a certain amount the player could get a formal warning. A simple tool could automatically parse the data from submitted logs and store it on the database with little human intervention.

They could also add on the spot fines for killing non combatants like how War Thunder penalizes team kills.

I didn't come here for PvP. But that is mostly what I get anyway. It seems to have spilled out of the combat zones and can frequenly happen anywhere whether you joined a side or not. Something that I did not buy into elite for.

I spent the last 9 months and 100's of hours mastering almost 200 planes in War Thunder as my PvP fix. I came to ED for the traditional Elite experience with the addition of coop play. So far my enjoyment of the game has been marred a fair bit by the GTA thug mentality of a small but not insignificant part of the playerbase. The game has bugs that I am ok with, but the biggest bug of all seems to be players with sociopath leanings that find harassing players trying to avoid PvP fun.

Well exclude/ignore lists are not implemented yet. Nor are friend lists for that matter.

When another player kills you the game informs you who it was, so there's obviously a mechanism for keeping track.

In this case it's a persistent little no-life-no-mates in a cobra, possibly hacked to have impenetrable shields and infinite ammo, just ruining it for everybody. I'd like to see Frontier ban people like this. Ban them from playing the game I mean.

The thing is, we're all in test mode and crammed into a relatively small section of space. Surely the real game will not be like this to anywhere near the same degree just by the very nature of the full game universe and the way high/low population and high/low security will work. In short, all this will change when the game opens up so for the meantime you'll just have to grin and bear it, so to speak.

edit: Plus anyone cheating now is only helping the devs combat those tactics for the real game. Crappy but that's the rub.

i haphazard a guess and say that it is time for a new build. most testers will be bored and just get their kicks where they can. unfortunately human condition has a knack of culling the weak...

i have laid off ed for a few weeks now, will have another look with the new build. see if there is a bug or 2 to squash

Indeed.

It's only a beta test, just relax and have fun, no need to worry about losing your ship or getting griefed-hell, do the same thing and grief people!

It's a video game after all, it doesn't have to be taken seriously.

What are you guys actually talking about? I have no idea what a 'Griefer' is or what a 'gank' does lol. What are the specific actions allowed within the game engine that has got so many upset. Is it that others are better at flying and pick on the news guys? Is it hackers changing the game to advantage themselves? If it's the first... tough, that's the game. Get better. If it is the second they should be ip banned for life.
