Newcomer / Intro The NPC attacks are absolutely stupid.

You just can't get anywhere in this game. One step forward, three steps back.

Just now, I went to mine. An NPC comes up and demands 9 tons of materials (I had JUST started mining and had exactly 9) and gives me 10 seconds to comply. I can't even navigate the interface that damn fast. It's ridiculous!

By the time I jettisoned the 9 tons of Bertrandite I was blown half way to Mars.

So he finally leaves after the payoff, I go back to mining trying to salvage something out of this trip, and 30 seconds later another NPC demands 12 tons of cargo (again, absolutely ALL that I had) and blows me to bits before I can jettison it.

This is an absolute deal breaker. I'm serious. Something needs to be done about it. It's supposed to be a game and somewhat enjoyable, not a damned slaughter house that kills you any time you start to do anything.

It's all about learning the mechanics, I am afraid.

The learning curve is steep, but after the initial climb, it's all straightforward.

When you go mining, as soon as you drop out of supercruise, a number of NPCs will spawn: before you start doing anything, wait for the pirates to come and scan you. Once they realise that you have nothing, they will lose interest in you and will be unlikely to bother you thereafter.

Never had to deal with pirates ever again after I realised this: nowadays I only get attacked if I actively look for them. :)

I'll try that.

I've been killed three times in two days now. I'm on the brink of just uninstalling it and moving on.
Keep one thing in mind: there is nothing impossible or too hard in this game (aside from advanced combat), it's just a matter of understanding the mechanics. If you are frustrated that something isn't working, in most cases it is because you are missing a piece of the jigsaw.

Feel free to come to the forums and ask the questions (like you have done so far), possibly before you reach the breaking point! There is no point being in frustrated by a videogame. ;)

Where are you mining? If you're mining in a resource extraction site, the pirates will keep coming. Anywhere else on the rings, the pirates only come at the beginning. Once they're gone, you can start mining. Don't forget that if you logoff or get logged off where you're mining, when you log back on, the pirates will come again. so best to leave before they come.

In a resource extraction site, you have to mine in a circular band between 16km and 20km from the RES centre marker. Even, then, the pirates will come from time to time, in which case, you can try negotiating with them or run them off your radar, then go back to mining.

So I gave it one more try.

Came out of super cruise, pulled up to an asteroid and waited. In about 20 seconds two NPC's came at the same time. Both scanning and posting the "let's see what you've got in your hold" nonsense in the chat.

I waited for them to finish, post their "so much for an easy payday" and "come back when you have something" and leave.

Then I sat there for another 5 minutes just to make sure there wasn't another one right behind them. Nobody ever showed, so I started mining.

I got two asteroids mined and was on my way to a third when the THIRD FREAKING NPC jumped me and took half my load and shot my ship to ribbons.

Uninstalled.

It's just a ridiculous state of affairs and completely untenable from a solo player playing on the solo game mode to have to deal with. It's a real shame too as the game is absolutely beautiful to look at and fly around in.

But when you're constantly jumped and killed and having anything you ever get worth having destroyed by NPC's you can't even fight back against it's simply not worth the trouble.

Thanks to all that tried to help out from the beginning. Great community you have here, but the RIDICULOUS level of NPC's killing me all the time just renders the game not worth playing.

Perhaps you started the wrong career? Have you tried something else? I went exploring from the beginning. Disappeared in the void for months, learned some basics, came back to bubble, did some engineering and pirate killing and I don't remember a single time where an NPC would be a problem... Unless that NPC was some high level target that I was supposed to kill...

I have been on multiple trips since then, went to Beagle Point, Colonia, Sag A, went Thargoid spotting, went to do the Guardian stuff etc... There is so much to do in the game and not a single activity was actually anywhere near to being so difficult, I would consider uninstalling the game...

The only thing I have not done so far, is mining... :)

EDIT: I just read your thread on your exploration attempt (Exploring - Don't get it at all). I think less "trying hard" and more "let's try what happens when I do this" approach might help... When I read your exploration thread, it seemed like a thread of someone, who was impatient and expecting everything to work immediately. Instead, what you should have done was just take a general direction and just go and go and go and go and never look back... Just go for a month or two and see what happens... :)

Now mining is probably a difficult trade... I cant help you with that one. But why do you do mining anyway?

EDIT 2: I just read your thread "Cargo makes no sense at all". Now I think I understand where your problem is... Especially after reading that part where you rudely snapped at someone, who was trying to help you...

I think it's actually good, that you have uninstalled the game...

That is not what happens. As long as you are not in what is called a "Resource Extraction Site" no more pirates appear after the initial one(s) go away. I think your mistake was not to wait until you see the white "high wake" icons appear on your scanner because the pirates are still "around" (even if out of scanner range) and can come back in range - so always wait until you see that they have high-waked out.

Sorry to see you are leaving.

Elite has always been a difficult place to survive.

Mining, the NPC pirates you have succumbed to are very annoying but can be worked around with more patience as has been said you need to see they have jumped out not just gone beyond the range of your scanners, I use the time to find a really good rock for when I start mining and has also been stated have nothing in the cargo hold except limpets whenever you arrive in a ring, or log back into the game for any reason while your ship is in a ring, if that does happen leave the ring at full boost and get to a station to empty your holds.

Hunting bounties in RES sites and the like, a few stray shots can leave you being hunted and possibly forced into a restricted play style because of your notoriety assuming you don't get destroyed when every ship insight turns against you. Again there are ways to mitigate the risks.

Missions, personally I think somebody working for the people giving the missions is working for the opposition and sells you out before you have even undocked.

The key is never drop with stuff on board. One instance, one sell trip. You will never have this happen if you do it this way, although you can still be interdicted on the trip.

Sounds odd a third popped in and blew you up. You're not in open are you? Some random ganker go to you? A bit of a stretch, I know.

I'm with @Mr T on this: if you can, go outside the bubble - there are no pirates.

The problem is if you have to cut your session short for real life situations ie family / wife (let's be real here) or your game crashes (which can happen while mining), those NPCs will appear again at the start of your next session. If you mine outside the bubble you don't have that issue.

Pro Tip: If you mine outside the bubble there are no NPCs. You just might have to travel a bit further to sell your goodies.
You need to travel a long way from the bubble to get away from pirates, and that is only really viable if you have an FC. It's much easier just to learn how to avoid or deal with the unwanted attention.

I was thinking about suggesting getting a FC but didn't as not everyone is inclined to do the work to get one. You could jump aboard someone elses FC but just make sure you know what the owner is like first :)

A lot of solution were posted here so far for your problem. Another method could be to Team up with another cmdr who is protecting you in a combat vessel. If you have an INARA account you can get in touch with BVCO squadron and ask for escort support for your mining runs. If we could agree to time and place we can provide that service and even can show you some valuable Hotspots for e.g. platinum. This service wouldn't cost you any credits as we are fine with the wing-trade bonus when you sell your stuff.
