The NPCs are getting so good!

Yesterday I was in SC and I got interdicted by an NPC pirate in a viper. I was not equipped to defend myself so I boosted away and jumped back into SC. The same pirate interdicted me, again, and, again, I boosted and jumped back into SC. I made it to the station and when I dropped out of SC someone shot a missile at me! It was the pirate that interdicted me! Once I got in the no-fire zone, the station started to shoot at the pirate. The pirate jumped out and to safety! Hahahaha. The whole time he was berating me on comms.

This is amazing to me. Bravo FD!

Now if we can get missions like X-Wing this game will be brilliant.

Yet every day or so we see some Commander start a thread whining that he couldn't take down an Elite NPC Python in his Hauler and it just isn't fair and he is telling his mommy.
.
I love the new AI, lots of nice little touches like after scanning they will sometimes say something like "Whoa, you look as though you can look after yourself, I will leave you in peace" or the like.
.
My only beef with SJA's minions is those that volunteer for the Security Services - just because I incurred a 200 Credit Bounty doesn't mean you have to ignore all other wanted ships and attack me on mass! lol Oh and the silly NPCs that interdict me in my Vulture when I have no cargo and they are in an unshielded Eagle - just a waste of my time :D

The interdictions can be annoying, but I still think it's better than before. I was about to interdict a t6 and I got interdicted by an NPC. Or I'm about to interdict a mission target and I get interdicted.

Tsk tsk, yeah...have you noticed the Npc's in Solo are more vocal then players in Open? Dare I say they communicate more?

I dunno, I took out an Imperial Clipper and a Federal Dropship at the same time in an Asp with FA-Off, and I'm not a good pilot.

Though I don't recall what their combat ratings were. Not super high, not Masters or Elites anyway. My shields nearly dropped fighting a Master in a Viper in the same ship, so perhaps the combat ratings make a big difference to how hard they are to fight.

It definitely does. The higher ranks have better modules and harder tactics.

Better AI is needed. I fell asleep in my chair fighting an Elite Python. They are just too routine to kill

An Elite NPC in Python should absolutely destroy 9 out of 10 players who are in an evenly equipped ship.

Thats not fair?
He is an Elite rated NPC and they should be hard. Damn hard. It should require weeks or more of hardcore dogfighting to be near their skill level.

I am sorry if the majority of crap games out there have indoctrinated this sense of "nomatter how much I suck I should be able to best the game" mentality. But this is Elite Dangerous. Not Elite Everyone-gets-participation-reward-like-kindergarden.

Is that NPC kicking your butt? Then go improve your skill. Dont expect the game to adjust to your skill, or lack thereof, just so you can feel appreciated.

Thats pretty good.

I like the idea with quick chat.
Why not just make dialog window like in RPGs

pirate:
"cargo or your life?"

player options

1)Here you go just leave me be i have 15 children and wife and my mother-in-law is beating me. (choose cargo to drop)
2)I don't have any would credits suffice (transfer xxxx credits to pirate's offshore account)
3)You gonna have to earn it (Fight)

Agreed, Elite npcs are better but i can still walk all over them. let it be a true fight. It is Elite Dangerous after all.

I think you're in the wrong thread. No one's complaining aout AI here, so I don't see the point of your post. I do agree with you, though.

One thing that I still think is missing is more intelligent NPC fight-or-flight. When AI's judge whether to interdict or not, they should look at ship type and equipment, not just combateer rating. Just because you're a dangerous shieldless Eagle instead of a novice shieldless Eagle doesn't mean that you can defeat me, but a novice Anaconda might still be a danger to me.

We are all doomed I tell you... DOOMED!
SJ's minions will kill us all! :p

Thanks for the update Sarah, the future looks very promising ;)

Working on it... Next combat AI update will be much better for you. :) I'm targeting high ranks for a massive boost (and on my build they are now much harder), but making the lower ranks easier as part of a re-balance.

While you are at it can you maybe also make them a bit smarter overall? Like when I'm cruising over RES in my BattleConda it should occure to them that coming to me in their puny Eagles spitting theats might not be such a bright idea after all.

Minding my own business this morning when I got interdicted by a three eagle wing. I guess they wanted to rob me of my robotics ;-) Made for an entertaining start to the day - a nice little skirmish in the Cobra. They even managed to get through the shields - but at three-to-one, they should be able to! Nice little bounty afterwards when I docked that more than covered the small amount of repairs required. Great to see the improvements that are coming along in the AI/NPC department :)
