With the confirmation of the “death” of Odyssey from NASA announced this week, a small discussion of having a tourist beacon placed above Mars was brought up. Further talks resulted in a better idea. Making Mars the first atmospheric landfall planet. The best suggestion currently is to have a landing zone specifically placed near the site of the Odyssey’s last known position and allow SRV usage to within 50 meters of the rover, to allow for CMDRs to view and screenshot Odyssey in-game. It was also suggested to require a docking computer to guide ships in on final approach and force CMDRs into a 10x10 km landing zone so the rest of Mars would be kept off-limits like all other atmospheric planets. I feel this would be in the same vein as Voyager 1’s appearance within Elite Dangerous and would make for a nice monument and some recognition to NASA.
