Now that Odyssey is here, I'm sure there are loads of bugs and other more pressing things to address. But this will not always be so...and, so?
My (future) Elite Dangerous: Odyssey wish list.
Gameplay
•Tenders - In order to dock a big ol Imperial Cutter, at a small dock, one should be able to use their SLF, as a tender, to occupy a small landing pad, accept a mission, and take off. Or, we can wait for a taxi service, but traditionally larger vessels carry their own dinghies/ tenders. Either would be great.
•Separate SRV interface modes - If I have to turn my SRV turrets on, for skimmers, mining, or Guardian sentries, I would more than likely still love to leave my ship in discovery mode. This isn't a big deal to switch, but the problem is that I eventually realize I went 3 systems without so much as honking, but still having held the ping button down for all of those systems. And then it's "crap...that's right...f***ng SRV."
•In-person Xeno (goes without saying) - Maybe even in-person Guardian (preserved) mummies? In cryopods? With this we could tie into this next point.
•Retrievable DNA (sampling) - A DNA sampling component, with a chance to succeed, or fail, due, to age of subject (where it is applicable). I thought this would be a fun way to make some creds and boost research. This is already similar to the existing tissue sample mechanic, except performed from our Artemis bio tool. You could do the same with Xeno, once you've killed one (lol).
•Revised mission boards - A new mission board designed to detect your ship configuration and skill level and then match you up with missions suitable for your configuration. The current mission board's idea of Elite, or high rated missions is more cargo capacity and larger ships. This is not always the case. Sometimes an Elite pilot flies a small fighter. That's right, there should even be missions for our SLF, like "fly to the nearby body and take a short range fighter to [this] location." This will make small fighters continue to be relevant. If I'm in an Eagle? I don't necessarily want to have to fight a fully kitted Conda. If I do I may just spend 30 minutes fighting and retreating, all for me to either blow up, or it to jump away. In SC a small fighter may go toe-toe with a large one. You need only create an opening in a quadrant of your target's shield and blast an engine off, or simply eat through its hull that way. IE small fighters maintain relevance and are even deadly.
Immersion
•Camera shake - Let's start with a thanks. Thank you, so much, for providing the "minimize camera shake" effect, because having camera shake on is terrible and nothing in space should shake that much. However, I have a further request/ idea. Could we separate camera shake in atmosphere, from camera shake in space? I wouldn't mind it in tenuous, especially upon entry, or especially in denser atmosphere, as things would be a little more choppy there. But having the ship shake in supercruise and in Witchspace is really off putting.
•Afterburner sounds - Hey, I love the sound of a fighter. Especially in-person. I DO NOT like the sound "in space." An option to disable this would be great...but this would require separating out the sounds. I've considered researching the sound files, to see if I can keep the internal ship "boost" sound, and separate it out from the crackling, echoing roar. It's more feasible to believe that you'd hear the internal ship mechanics driving the propulsion (each ship's proprietary boosting sound), but not the afterburner effect. The afterburner sound is actually double-offending because the sound clip we get is actually what jets sound like from 3rd person, thousands of feet away and at the ground level. This is okay, when considering camera suite, but the inside of the craft would be engine and atmospheric vibrations with predominantly winding/ spooling, humming and wind passing (white noise) sounds. These white noise sounds I would not mind as much because you could tailor their noise level to clean vs dirty tuning. The reason I say this is because somebody I know, said there was either a Mig 25, or Mig 31 (same engine) at an airfield he was stationed at and that even with it just running, it generated so much noise and electrical emissions that it was interfering with various equipment there. I want to say that it was due to a lack of shielding? I don't know if it is true, but whenever I think of clean tuning, versus, dirty tuning I think of that.
•Contrails and vapor cones - Look it up, there is a difference. Contrails we find from virtually every jet in the sky, but vapor cones only really happen at supersonic speeds and become greatly exaggerated the sharper the change in direction is, while at supersonic speeds. This could translate decently to (thicker) atmosphere type tenuous planets. At least water based(?) ones. This would particularly be great for entry, or atmosphere based combat. This could work out to be really cool looking, if only these ships had high speed lateral thrusting too and do a sort of "vapor dome" effect.
•Deadly blackholes (or other mechanic)
•Blackholes with accretion disks. Not every black hole is naked or new. The larger the accretion disk the higher likelihood that it is also older. Even wormhole could have them, in fact it is said that a matured wormhole's accretion disk would already be too hot, at the event horizon, for anything to pass through and survive.
•Magnetar start types - Enough said! But then again? Could we jump to a system with one? Or would we instantly be vaporized?
