Pretty pleased with everything to come out of Beyond so far, but there's still one thing I'm hoping for and I refuse to believe I'm the only one who's thought of it.
Three existing points to lead in to what I want.
- Anyone who's been playing for a while has a load of ships sitting around.
- You can hire up to three pilots to work for you.
- You can run with a wing of up to three other CMDRs.
See where I'm going with this? I'd really like to be able to wing up with the pilots you've hired. I can think of a way that this would benefit almost every major activity in the game, especially for solo players.
- Increased power and efficiency in CZs, while bounty hunting, and Thargoid hunting. You could even set yourself up as a repair ship, keep your distance and order your pilots to break off and head back to you for aid when their shields or hull get low.
- If you're running a large trade ship with little defence, you can set yourself up with a constant armed escort. Or, of course, run as a wing of 4 huge trade ships and make ALL THE MONIES.
- Mining - they could send you reports from each of their prospector limpets, and you can decide whether they should proceed with mining that asteroid or move on to the next.
- Even exploring could benefit; if you set up with 4 exploration ships, you could fan out and scan everything in the system much faster rather than having to cherry pick to be more time-efficient.
Each pilot could have individual skill ratings to improve their ability in particular activities as well - for example, you might have a pilot who's a seasoned bounty hunter, or if you hired someone from the Maia area, you might find someone who's had experience fighting Thargoids. If you have someone who's spent time exploring, they might be able to point out worlds that look valuable before you've scanned them.
There'd have to be risks as well as benefits, of course. You're obviously gonna have to trust your pilots to not have to make you pay X-number of credits for rebuy costs, and if you're in an exploration wing, your jumps would be limited to what the ship with the lowest capability can do. But given that multicrew has turned out to be a bit of a wet fart tus far while the AI pilots sometimes feel a bit pointless until you have ships that can poop fighters out, I just think they're capable of so much more that could benefit new and experienced players alike, especially with wing missions on the way.
