Alright, so we don't know much about what to expect from the game - although personally, I only ever wanted an updated Elite/Frontier for modern technology with combat that was more fun and an economy / mission system that was more dynamic (It was too easy to make money at almost zero risk on the old systems).

So I'm pretty much sold on the game as I do believe we'll get more than that anyway - I'm looking forward to hearing more about multiplayer.

I'm struggling with the name though. In the grand scheme, its not so important - but "Elite: Dangerous" just keeps making me think 'am I Elite? or am I dangerous?' because of the old ranking system (is it just me that thinks this?)

Anyway, my own humble suggestions would be:

Elite (or "The Elite")
Elite IV
Elite: The Next Frontier
Elite: New Frontier

If its been 30 years since the original - would there be a harm in just re-using the name exactly? I understand the '4' might confuse people who are newcomers to the game, and it will need those.

I suppose referring to Elite and Frontier in the title might be confusing as well; are we getting a new Elite game or a new Frontier game?
And calling it Elite 4 might get some folks accusing them of having no imagination!
I agree it's not a hugely thrilling name though...

Well my first thought was for Elite: The New Frontier but on reflection I think Elite: Dangerous is less corny than mine.

My overall preference now though would be for another name entirely based on what happens in the game and something a lot more dynamic! - for example Elite: The End Of All Things, or Elite: The Arrival, or Elite: First Contact, etc in the same vein as Elite: First Encounters/Elite: Frontier etc.

I do feel Elite: Dangerous tells you practically nothing about what to expect of the game itself and doesnt really fire you up as to what to expect to happen in the same way as Elite: Conflict or Elite: Desperation Of The Brave would for example lol!

It wouldn't be unusual to change the name once it gets closer to a reality though.

I have to admit that I'm not sold on the name either, and in one of the other threads some of us were throwing about some potential names. The two I liked best in that one would've been "Elite : Witchspace" and "Elite : Resurgence"

No, it's not just you ... I would welcome as a name, simply "Elite"

It's been too long since the last release to give it a number so straight to the point - Elite.

While "Dangerous" has been used in numerous game names, I think the problem for customer confusion is great since both our games are in the exact same genre, and the names differ in only "Elite". I sent him a polite email early this week telling him about the potential conflict in naming and asked if we could come to a mutually amicable agreement, but no response has been forthcoming.

Have to admit I'd also prefer it simply called Elite. The Dangerous tag seems extraneous and while something like Elite: Rebirth would be appropriate its a little bit corny. At the end of the day I'm not too fussed either way if the game sees the light of day tho.

I don't think Elite: Rebirth is a good idea considering Egosoft already named their next space sim X:Rebirth.
I like Elite : Phoenix myself.

That or Spaceship goes pew pew pew (From Steve O B Have)

I quite like 'phoenix' although its also pretty non descriptive, I've always just enjoyed the word :)

Other subtitles spring to mind would be 'awakening', 'reborn', 'the new chapter' perhaps.

I wonder if the setting will be important - whether it will be the same 'time' as Elite, Frontier/FFE or whether it will take place before or after the other games in the timeline?

I think I would rather it just be a reboot than a sequel. Rather than trying to continue or link to the other games in the series, just leave them be and make this a replacement/update.

Elite: Next Frontier would be a nice message in addition to being a title, while Elite: Dangerous just begs the question - "why not Elite: Elite then?" and Elite: Elite would be just horrible.

After seeing the (at best) wild speculation from Play.com I'd never EVER buy anything from them.
1) They listed a game they had no idea whether it was even in development nevermind a release date
2) Now they still can't get their facts right.

I simply do not trust them.

To be fair, I've never had any issues ordering from Play.com, but they're definitely not playing with a straight bat when it comes to Elite 4.

THAT'S the name I would like.

I don't like the current name either Elite:Dangerous.

Also I like the fact the IV is in there as it would get people to look at the previous ones with no harm to them.

The Next Encounter makes a lot of sense too in the name plus it does not say "Frontier" anywhere so it can't get confused with that title.

Elite IV: The Next Encounter is the name I would have.

I didn't like Elite: Dangerous at first but it's grown on me, and I didn't think it was referring to the rating system, but to the gameplay.

So I've been looking at the thesaurus for alternatives:

Elite: Alarming
Elite: Bad
Elite: Brave (The Brave or Only The Brave)
Elite: Delicate (what?)
Elite: Dynamite
Elite: Exposed:eek:
Elite: Fatal
Elite: Formidable
Elite: Hairy:D
Elite: Loaded (hmm, nah)
Elite: Nasty
Elite: Ticklish:rolleyes:

The thing I've come to like about Dangerous is that it's simple and says a lot without saying much, like it's going to be tough out there. You'll always be looking over you shoulder sort of thing.

Was more a "for instance" rather than suggesting to use that name.
