The Option to Pledge More

Should there be an OPTION for us to put more money into Elite Dangerous other than buying paint jobs?

What I mean is, a pledge page. I'm not saying we should be entitled to anything by doing this, I'm saying for those of us that would take it upon ourselves to give Frontier some more of our money cus we love the game and their efforts.

Just wondering what others think of this and if donating more money is something you'd be interested in doing.

I certainly am, would love the option to give more to the Developers.

EDIT:

This idea came to me from simply looking at how much Star Citizen has raised in pledges.

Quote from mkten:

"FD are indeed a business, but has quite the ardent fan-base. I suspect that the OP's intentions are to assist development of this fabulous game further, and stave of any possibility of the plug being pulled.

Elite Dangerous isn't your typical game - Some people have waited decades for this. It's a constantly evolving 'managed' game that ultimately has a bunch of guys hidden in darkened office pods, responsible for serving us up content. Like your local coffee shop or butchers, you will always find people willing to go the extra mile to ensure that they remain 'open for business'."

NOTE:

For those that don't know, Elite Dangerous is an evolving game.

But what is wrong with buying the paintjobs?

If that is not enough, you could just gift copies of the game to your friends, I actually have some friends that would love to have this game but can't afford it.
This way you will make even more people happy, not just the devs, and also help increase the game population.

Personally I wouldn't. Ive bought a game from a business. I love it yeah but it ends there. I don't keep sending money to the dyson man cos I bought his vacuum cleaner.

That's a fairly succinct version of what I was about to post. FD are a business, one which has been running for quite a few years, and is worth quite a lot. It's not a charity for starving donkeys. They make and sell games, and they're pretty good at it. Let them sell you games when they make decent ones, if your nipples explode with delight whenever you think about them.

Wow

I didn't mean it like that jeeeeesus some people.

I just happened to look at how much Star Citizen has raised from pledges.

I really don't see the problem at all, that's why I asked the question because I personally would pledge more.

Not because my nipples explode but because I enjoy the game and would happily pledge more money.

Cus we all know what more money means.

Dayum you make a nice gesture and people get all weird about it.

buy stock in their company.
I believe they are listed on the FTSE, never been easier to set up a share trading account in another country if you aren't in the UK.

@OP : If you want to pledge more, just buy more digital copies and give them away :)

Thanks. You put it clearer than what I did aha.

And I never thought about buying more copies and giving them away....that's not a bad idea.

Yep, and I am one of those people. I am willing to bet that I have played more Elite on more platforms than almost anyone else here. However, I still say that it's weird behaviour to want to "pledge" money to a commercial developer. Buy their products. If they need more money, they will offers more stuff to buy. Do you creepily try to "pledge" money to Apple? No, on balance, don't answer that.. :D

Send Frontier cash in any from. I bet they are happy about that. If you feel you have to.

Cheers,
Robin

I don't feel like I have to, I'd just like to.

That's why I asked this question, to see what other people thought about an option to pledge.

I'd imagine one of the better ways to give them more money is to buy more copies of the game. As a digital product it costs them nothing and you could give them away to slightly increase the player numbers.

How is it weird or creepy?

Because I don't want anything in return?

This is an evolving game, and I just had the nice thought of having the option to give more money to further support development, if you so choose.

There's nothing weird or creepy about that.

If they had the option to pledge, half the community would go into doom-monger mode and claim that it's a sign that Frontier are about to collapse and/or disappear with our money. If you want to pledge -- and I have no problem with that -- just throw money at paintjobs. There's no ongoing overhead for them (as there would be with merchandise) so it's as good as a pledge.

Yeah, I never thought about that. It's a good idea.

Yeah I suppose, I just thought a simple "donate your chosen amount" would be better.

I see where people are coming from, it was just a curious question to see what people thought about it.

its your money , your choice . but if you like some american movie in cinema do you send extra money to hollywood ? if you want to give away money than rather give it to poor people . frontier is rich enough .

Star Citizen are not daft: Pay us three grand (or whatever) and we'll give you the best ship!

Its not pay to win though.....apparently.

I'm really looking forward to ED's in-ship upgrade options....leather seats, carbon fibre dashboard, furry dice. I'll spend, but I won't gain an advantage. This seems like the good and moral route to generating more cash for FD.

The best part is that they made it pay2win before there's even a game to win- they need never deliver that unless they get bored. It's genius.
